"Leader" "Struggled" New Dick Gephardt 2004 TV Ads

Dick Gephardt 2004 TV Ad "Struggled"Gephardt Campaign on the Air in Iowa and New Hampshire

Washington, DC - The Gephardt for President Campaign began its paid television advertising in Iowa and New Hampshire today. Two 30-second spots will run on broadcast and cable television.

One ad, entitled "Leader," details Rep. Dick Gephardt's success in leading the politically risky effort to pass President Clinton's 1993 economic plan. Describing it as "the right thing to do," that effort not only balanced the budget, but resulted in the greatest economic boom in our nation's history.

In the second spot, entitled "Struggled," Gephardt begins by saying "I approved this message because I want to stop George Bush and fight for America's middle class." In the ad, Gephardt discusses his background and the values that guide his public life. Those values will make him a very different president than George Bush. "It's people like my folks that make America great," Gephardt says in the ad. "I won't forget them as president."

Full text of both ads follows:

"Leader"
"1993. The economy's in a tailspin. Every Republican opposes Bill Clinton's economic plan. But, Democratic Leader Dick Gephardt digs in and wins the fight in Congress by one vote. The result: The longest expansion ever. Millions of new jobs. ' I'm Dick Gephardt. We took the political heat, but we did what was right. Now we have to get rid of the Bush tax cuts to create new jobs, and guarantee health care for all. That's why I approved this message.'"

"Struggled"
"I'm Dick Gephardt and I approved this message because I want to stop George Bush and fight for America's middle class. President Bush and I see things very differently. My mother was a secretary and my dad delivered milk door to door. They struggled so I could go to college. They taught me to do what's right, no matter the consequences. I owe them more than I can say. It's people like my folks who make America great. I won't forget them as president."
