LIEBERMAN CAMPAIGN UNVEILS FIRST ADS OF CYCLE
Two N.H. spots, on tax cuts and Iraq aid, begin airing this week
ARLINGTON, VA -- Joe Lieberman's campaign today unveiled its first two television ads, focusing on Lieberman's proposal for middle class tax relief and his support for our troops in Iraq.
The ads, which feature Lieberman speaking from a diner, are part of a series called On the Road with Joe. The series will show Lieberman confronting issues currently on the minds of the American people, and are intended to have a sense of immediacy in responding to the latest headlines.
The ads will begin airing in New Hampshire this week and may also be viewed by visiting joe2004.
Joe Lieberman will always do what's right for America, even if it's not always easy, said Campaign Director Craig Smith. These spots highlight the integrity Joe Lieberman has shown in proposing tax reform to make the system fairer, and the independence he has shown in supporting aid for our troops in Iraq.
In the first 30-second ad, Middle Class Tax Cut, Lieberman discusses his recent proposal to bring greater fairness and integrity to the tax system. In the ad, Lieberman, facing the camera directly while seated in a diner booth, initially holding a newspaper, says, Look at this. The Republicans are talking about billions of dollars in new tax breaks for corporations. It's unbelievable. They're going to ransack the whole Social Security trust fund if we don't stop them. I'm Joe Lieberman and I approve this message because we need to restore integrity and fairness to our taxes. My plan shuts down the outrageous loopholes for corporations. It raises rates for those who can afford it, and cuts taxes for the middle class. It's the right thing to do.
In the second 30-second ad, Doing What's Right, Lieberman discusses his support for the $87 billion package to support our troops in Iraq and rebuild the country. In the ad, Lieberman, again directly to the camera while seated in a diner booth, says, Eighty-seven billion dollars is a lot of money for Iraq -- too much in fact. That's the price we're paying because George Bush antagonized our allies and had no plan to win the peace. But we had to make a choice. I didn't duck it. I didn't play politics. I voted to support our troops and finish the job. I'm Joe Lieberman, and I approve this message because leadership means doing what's right, even when it's not easy.
