John Kerry Launches New Television Ads in New Hampshire, Iowa
“I believe Americans have the courage to change this country”
September 09, 2003 Washington, DC -
John Kerry hit the airwaves today with new television ads in New Hampshire and Iowa. The 60-second ad introduces John Kerry’s personal story to voters and connects it to the courageous political fights he has waged since he returned from Vietnam – a unique record of standing up for what’s right for America - and the fights he will wage as President, fighting for affordable healthcare, rolling back tax cuts for the wealthy while creating jobs and investing in education.
Today marks the second round of ads from John Kerry’s campaign in New Hampshire and Iowa and builds off of the momentum generated by last week’s announcement tour and the first set of ads, which helped vault Kerry to the top of the Democratic field in a recent CNN/Time poll.
The ad talks about the fights John Kerry has led, from record of fighting special interests, standing up against drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, protecting a woman’s right to choose, and leading the way on national security issues.
Kerry campaign manager Jim Jordan said, “With these ads, John Kerry is introducing himself to voters, relating the battles he’s fought, the values he stands for, the vision for America he will pursue as president.”
Text of the ad:
John Kerry from Foreign Relations Committee testimony, 1971: How do you ask a man to be the last man to die in Vietnam? How do you ask a man to be the last man to die for a mistake?
Announcer Voice Over: John Kerry… The 25 year old swift boat commander who won 3 purple Hearts and the Silver Star for bravery…
…then came home and helped rally the nation against that war. Ever since, he’s been on the frontlines of the fights that matter.
The new Senator who defended a woman’s right to choose.
Who sounded the alarm on terrorism years before 9/11.
Who stopped George Bush and the oil companies from drilling in the Alaska Wildlife Refuge.
Now he’s running for president.
John Kerry: We need to get some things done in this country – affordable health care, rolling back tax cuts for the wealthy, really investing in our kids.
But right now, too many in politics are afraid to take on the powerful interests… or they’re like George Bush and are working hand-in-hand with them.
I believe the courage of Americans can change this country.
John Kerry: I’m John Kerry. And that’s why I approved this message.
