McCain Announces National Security, Energy Advisors

MCCAIN ANNOUNCES NATIONAL SECURITY, ENERGY ADVISORS
Schlesinger, McFarlane and Woolsey Join Prestigious National Security Team

ARLINGTON, VA – U.S. Senator John McCain’s presidential campaign today announced that former Secretary of Defense James Schlesinger, the Honorable Robert ‘Bud’ McFarlane, and former CIA Director R. Jim Woolsey* have endorsed John McCain for President and will advise his campaign on energy and national security issues.

The trio of former top-level security officials pledged their support to Senator John McCain’s presidential campaign and will continue to play a key role in the campaign’s focus on the intersection of energy and national security issues.

“America’s dependence on foreign oil is a critical issue of national security,” said Schlesinger.  “John McCain is a leader with the character and credibility to ensure that our nation’s safety and prosperity does not rest in the hands of hostile regimes.

“It makes no sense for America to be funding both sides in the struggle against radical Islam or to remain vulnerable to the whims of unstable foreign sources of oil," said McFarlane.  "John McCain understands this and that the means for relieving these anomalies are within our reach.”

“John McCain has the resolve to push for advanced technologies that will lead to greater energy independence for America,” said Woolsey.  “As president, he will foster innovation and entrepreneurship in the diversification of our energy supply.”

Senator John McCain stated that he was proud of the support and counsel he has received from these globally recognized leaders in America’s energy and defense sectors.  “These individuals are recognized and respected for their seriousness and leadership on the important security issues confronting our nation,” said Senator McCain.  “I am honored to have their support, and I look forward to working with them to develop innovative policies that move America forward.”

Statement By Senator John McCain

STATEMENT BY SENATOR JOHN MCCAIN

ARLINGTON, VA – U.S. Senator John McCain’s presidential campaign today released the following statement: “Today’s Supreme Court ruling is a victory for those who cherish the sanctity of life and integrity of the judiciary.  The ruling ensures that an unacceptable and unjustifiable practice will not be carried out on our innocent children.  It also clearly speaks to the importance of nominating and confirming strict constructionist judges who interpret the law as it is written, and do not usurp the authority of Congress and state legislatures.  As we move forward, it is critically important that our party continues to stand on the side of life.”

Senator McCain Announces West Virginia Leadership
Conservative Leadership Attracts Strong Support For Arizona Senator

ARLINGTON, VA - U.S. Senator John McCain's presidential campaign today announced that twelve influential West Virginia Republicans will advise the Arizona Senator's campaign in the state.

Senator McCain's campaign advisory committee in West Virginia will include former state Delegate and Republican Minority Leader Larry Swann, former state Republican Party Chairman David Tyson, Senate Minority Whip Clark Barnes, state Senator Mike Hall, state Delegate Tom Azinger, state Delegate Daryl Cowles, state Delegate Thomas Mike Porter, state Delegate Jeffery Tansill, state Delegate William R. Romine, former state Senator Sarah Minear, Adjutant Miles Epling of the West Virginia American Legion, and prominent local attorney Mark Carter.

The members will use their combined years of experience and understanding of West Virginia's political landscape to provide leadership to Senator McCain's campaign.

"Senator McCain is a conservative leader who is serious about ensuring America's future is prosperous and secure," said Swann. "Whether you're a sportsman, taxpayer, or traditional, family-oriented American, John McCain's record of strength on the issues is very appealing."

"Too many times voters are forced to choose between strength of character and strength of record, but West Virginia has both in John McCain," Tyson said. "Aside from staring down adversity on the battlefield, Senator McCain is the only reliable protector of our freedoms, rights, and culture of life."

Senator John McCain stated that he was proud to receive the support of these West Virginia Republicans. "These leaders have been trusted advocates for important conservative ideas in West Virginia and I am encouraged by their support," said Senator McCain. Veterans Across The Nation Pledge Support To McCain

VETERANS ACROSS THE NATION PLEDGE SUPPORT TO MCCAIN

ARLINGTON, VA – U.S. Senator John McCain’s presidential campaign today announced that more than 200 veterans from around the country have endorsed the Arizona Senator for President and are working in their states to reach out to fellow veterans on his behalf.  Veterans supporting Senator John McCain have fought and represented the United States in every major conflict since World War II.

Lieutenant Colonel Orson Swindle flew over 205 fighter missions in Vietnam as a member of the United States Marine Corps.  He was held as a Prisoner of War for more than six years in North Vietnam.  Swindle has been awarded over 20 military decorations for valor in combat including two Silver Stars, two Bronze Stars, two Legions of Merit, and two Purple Hearts.

“I know John McCain, the man,” said Swindle.  “We served many difficult years together as POWs in Hanoi and have been close friends for over 35 years.  He has integrity, intellectual depth and honesty, courage in the face of adversity, and a life experience that sets him apart from others.  I have seen his true character under the harshest of circumstances and I can think of no better person to bring us together as a people, and to lead our nation through one of our most difficult times, than John McCain.”

Sergeant Major Paul Chevalier is a life member of Portsmouth Emerson Hovey VFW Post 168 and has served four times as Post Commander.  Chevalier has also served his fellow veterans as President of the Central Veterans Council of Portsmouth, VFW District 7 Commander, State Commander of the New Hampshire VFW, eight-time VFW State Legislative Chairman, member of the Board of Directors of the New Hampshire Veterans Home, and member of the New Hampshire State Cemetery Council.

“As a fellow veteran, John McCain understands what it means to defend America and the values our nation represents,” said Chevalier.  “As Commander-In-Chief, I know John McCain will lead our Armed Forces with a strong and decisive hand.”

Knox Nunnally is a former Marine Infantry Captain, Second Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, who was awarded the Bronze Star for valor and a Purple Heart.

“As a veteran of three combat tours in Iraq as a Marine Infantry Officer, I am absolutely convinced that John McCain is the only candidate for president who understands the horrific consequences of losing this war and has a coherent plan for victory,” said Nunnally.

Vice Admiral Joe Mobley had a thirty-five year career in the United States Navy, including tours as the Commanding Officer of the Aircraft Carrier USS Saratoga during Operation Desert Storm and Commander, Naval Air Force Atlantic.  He spent five years as a prisoner of war in Vietnam, during which he shared a cell with John McCain for approximately six months.

“John McCain is an American hero.  Whether in the skies over Vietnam, as a prisoner of war, or during his service in the United States Senate, John McCain has always taken principled stands,” said Mobley.  “He has also been the first to stand up for what he believes is right and has always worked for those of us who have worn the uniform of our nation’s military.”

Senator John McCain stated his utmost appreciation for such an outpouring of support from his fellow veterans.  “I am honored to have the support of these brave American heroes who understand, better than anyone, the sacrifices required of those who volunteer to serve their country on the battlefield,” said Senator McCain.  “These men and women have put their lives on the line to defend America and I will do everything in my power to honor their sacrifices.”
