John McCain 2008 Launches New Televison Ad, "Woodstock"

JOHN MCCAIN 2008 LAUNCHES NEW TELEVISION AD, "WOODSTOCK"

ARLINGTON, VA -- U.S. Senator John McCain's presidential campaign today released a new television ad, entitled "Woodstock," to run in New Hampshire.  The new ad focuses on John McCain's commitment to eliminating wasteful pork-barrel spending as opposed to Senator Hillary Clinton, who has in her short time in the Senate come to symbolize the problem of outrageous overspending in Washington.
John McCain, named a "Taxpayer Hero" by Citizens Against Government Waste, has led the fight against wasteful spending his entire career.  In one successful effort, John McCain eliminated up to $2 billion in wasteful and corrupt spending in the Boeing tanker deal.  On the other hand, Senator Clinton requested a total of $2.4 billion in earmarks in 2008.  Senator Clinton's earmarks included $1 million for a Woodstock Museum, $500,000 for a "Virtual Herbarium" and $1.2 million for research on growing grapes.

McCain Campaign Communications Director Jill Hazelbaker stated, "Senator Clinton is apparently still living in the 'Age of Aquarius' rather than in an age of fiscal responsibility."

Script for "Woodstock" (:30-TV)

ANNCR: It was a cultural event that defined a generation.  Worthy of fond memories.

But worthy of a million of your tax dollars to build a museum?

Hillary Clinton thinks so.

John McCain disagrees.

He's been cutting wasteful spending for more than 20 years.

That's why Citizens Against Government Waste calls John McCain a Taxpayer Hero.

It's a matter of priorities.

John McCain says, if you want to relive Woodstock ... buy the record.

JOHN MCCAIN: I'm John McCain and I approve this message

Obama Campaign Opens Fairfield and Perry Offices In Iowa

Obama Campaign Opens Fairfield and Perry Offices
Total of 33 Offices Across Iowa

DES MOINES – The Obama Campaign today announced the opening of new offices in Fairfield and Perry, bringing the total number of Iowa offices up to 33.  Across Iowa, staff and volunteers are reaching out to communities and discussing Senator Obama’s vision to change the way we do politics in Washington, D.C. and transform our country.  The Perry office opens as the local community prepares for Barack Obama’s Meet the Candidate event at Perry High School on Saturday.  In Fairfield, local community members will hold a grand opening celebration on Saturday, October 27th at 2:30 PM.

“Our campaign knows the road to change begins in Iowa, and that’s why we’re reaching out to communities across Iowa to build our grassroots movement for change,” Senator Obama said.  “By meeting Iowans where they are, our campaign is able to listen to and empower communities large and small as we work to challenge the status quo in Washington, D.C., bring the war in Iraq to a responsible end, and provide affordable, high-quality health care for all.”

Demonstrating a strong commitment to reaching out to Iowans, the Obama Campaign now has an unprecedented 33 offices open across Iowa.  By comparison, at the end of the 2004 Iowa caucuses, Presidential candidate Senator John Kerry had 22 offices statewide.  According to yesterday’s Des Moines Register, the Clinton Campaign has 22 offices and the Edwards Campaign has 15 offices.

“All Iowans should feel welcome to come to our offices and learn more about our campaign,” State Director Paul Tewes said.  “Our grassroots movement is committed to listening to communities across the state and giving people an active role in our campaign.  Change happens from the bottom up, not the top down, and each of these offices will provide opportunities for people to have a stake in our movement for change.”

All offices are open to the public and residents are encouraged to contact offices for more information on how to get involved in Barack Obama’s grassroots movement for change in Washington, D.C.

Edwards Unveils "Hunting And Fishing Bill Of Rights And Responsibilities"

EDWARDS UNVEILS “HUNTING AND FISHING BILL OF RIGHTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES”
Announces Iowa Sportsmen and Sportswomen for Edwards Committee

Glenwood, Iowa – Today, as Senator John Edwards kicks off a four-day tour focused on supporting Iowa families and Iowa values, he unveiled a “Hunting and Fishing Bill of Rights and Responsibilities” to protect Iowa’s hunting and fishing tradition and to ensure that we protect our country’s natural resources for future generations.

“Growing up in small, rural towns, I learned early that America has been blessed with a wealth of natural resources,” said Edwards. “Just as it is our right to enjoy America’s forests, mountains, fields and streams, it is also our responsibility to protect them for generations to come. But the Bush Administration has waged war on the environment, putting corporate interests ahead of our natural heritage at every turn. It’s time to reverse this destruction and renew our commitment to protecting our natural treasures.”

The Edwards campaign also announced Iowa Sportsmen and Sportswomen for Edwards – comprised of more than 350 Iowans who share Edwards’ commitment to protecting and nourishing the important traditions of hunting and fishing.

Edwards is committed to listening to the concerns and standing up for the values of regular, hard-working Iowa families from across the state. During this trip, Edwards will reach a major milestone in his campaign: having visited and answered questions from Iowans in all 99 Iowa counties.

Edwards grew up in small, rural towns where he spent time outdoors, hunted, fished and learned to appreciate our nation’s natural resources.  He believes all Americans have a right to enjoy these resources and share a responsibility to protect them.  His “Hunting and Fishing Bill of Rights and Responsibilities” outlines five principles for access to public lands, gun rights, conservation, and safe, healthy fishing.

Improve Access to Public and Recreational Lands.  Because too often Americans are unable to enjoy America’s natural places and wildlife, Edwards will support “Open Fields” programs that encourage private landowners to let people hunt and fish on their land. He also supports setting up regional Public Access Councils to give local sportspeople a voice in land management and, instead of opening up backcountry for logging and drilling the way President Bush has done, Edwards will work to preserve our roadless backcountry.

Protect the Tradition of Responsible Gun Ownership.  Edwards hunted when he was young and grew up in rural areas where owning a gun was part of a way of life.  He respects that way of life and believes that we can do two things at once: protect gun rights and promote gun safety.

Preserve Access to Clean, Healthy Water for Fishing.  Edwards will restore the Clean Water Act’s authority over all our nation’s waters and fight mercury pollution in our fish by requiring power plants to reduce their emissions.

Secure our Natural Heritage for Future Generations. Edwards will get the Bureau of Land Management back in the business of protecting our public land instead of working for the oil and gas industry. He will re-invest in the National Park system and work to protect our habitats from invasive species that are skyrocketing in part because of foreign imports that the current administration isn’t willing to regulate.

Expect Citizens to Share Responsibility for Stewardship. Edwards will create new ways for regular Americans to take responsibility for conserving America’s natural treasures. He will help private landowners protect their land through the Conservation Reserve Program and will create an Outdoor Career Corps to train young people for jobs in conservation or park rangers. Finally, when national parks need to cull their game species because of over-population, Edwards supports saving taxpayers millions by having local hunters, instead of paid sharpshooters, do the job.

Romney For President Launches New Television Ad, "Business World"

Romney For President Launches New Television Ad, "Business World"

Boston, MA – Tomorrow, Romney for President will launch its newest television ad, "Business World." The ad highlights Governor Romney addressing his plans to curb wasteful government spending in Washington. With an exceptional record of turning around businesses, the 2002 Winter Olympics and the state of Massachusetts, Governor Romney has the experience necessary to turn around our nation's capital. Change in Washington begins when Republicans are fiscally responsible with taxpayer money.

The ad will begin airing as part of the campaign's rotation in South Carolina tomorrow.

Script For "Business World" (TV:30):

GOVERNOR MITT ROMNEY: "In business, you only spend what you have.

"In Washington, government always spends more. It shouldn't be that way.

"I'm Mitt Romney. I come from the business world – where turning around companies taught me how to manage budgets.

"That's what I did at the Olympics and as Governor.

"As President, I'll audit Washington – top to bottom – and cut spending.

"Because our next President has to be an agent of change.

"And as Republicans, change begins with us.

"I'm Mitt Romney and I approved this message."

New Obama Radio Ad Features Iowa’s Butter Cow Lady

New Obama Radio Ad Features Iowa’s Butter Cow Lady
Duffy Lyon Touts Rural Agenda Obama Rolled Out Last Week

DES MOINES – One week after laying out his rural policy agenda at a farm in Fairfax, the presidential campaign of Senator Barack Obama began airing a radio ad today featuring the sculptor of the famed Iowa butter cow, Duffy Lyon.  Lyon, who raises dairy cows and beef cattle with her husband on a farm outside Tama, says she believes that Obama’s plan for rural America is “for real.”    You can listen to the ad by clicking here: http://iowa.barackobama.com/ForUs.

“You know, you see a lot of manure in our line of work,” Lyon says.  “It’s a lot like politics.  You got to know what’s bull and what’s for real.”

In the 60-second spot titled “For Us”, Lyon calls Obama’s commitment to standing up to Washington special interests and fighting for rural America “gutsy”.

“Barack Obama’s got a real plan for rural America,” Lyon says.  “And it’s gutsy because it looks out for us, not lobbyists. It ends huge payments to factory farms that drive family farms out of business and gets rid of income taxes for most Iowa seniors.”

Lyon also praises Obama for seeking input and ideas from Iowans who live in rural communities as he put together his “Real Leadership for Rural America” plan.  Before unveiling his rural policy agenda, Obama hosted a rural issues forum in Adel and a rural policy summit in Tama and directed his staff to conduct more than 30 meetings in rural communities across Iowa this summer.

“But the best part is he listened and knows our kids need opportunity here in Iowa so they don’t have to leave home to follow their dreams,” Lyon says in the ad.

Dodd Campaign Unveils New Televison Ad Entitled "Jim's"

DODD CAMPAIGN UNVEILS NEW TELEVISION AD HIGHLIGHTING DODD'S ABILITY TO GET RESULTS AS PRESIDENT
Winterset, Iowa Barber Shop Serves As Setting

WASHINGTON, DC - Senator and Presidential Candidate Chris Dodd today announced today that his campaign will begin running a new ad entitled "Jim's," highlighting his ability to achieve results as President.  The ad points to Dodd's success in helping resolve conflict in Northern Ireland and Central America and authoring and passing the Family and Medical Leave Act.

The 60-second spot will run in Iowa and on national cable networks and introduces John and Jesse, two barbers at Jim's barbershop in Winterset, Iowa, where the ad was shot.

"People across America, including Iowa, are frustrated with their leaders promising change, but failing to achieve any real results," said campaign manager Sheryl Cohen. "Sen. Dodd has 26 years of proven leadership and results to run on in this race, and that's what he's doing. From international affairs to key domestic issues, Sen. Dodd has not been just fighting, but fighting and winning, and that's the kind of leadership he'll bring to the White House."

In addition to the Senate Central America Negotiations Group, led by Sen. Dodd, which was created to monitor the progress of the Guatemala City Accord, Sen. Dodd also worked to increase human rights protections and sought a cease-fire in El Salvador. Sen. Dodd helped facilitate the Good Friday Peace Accords, which helped bring peace to Northern Ireland and Ireland.

Domestically, Dodd authored the Family and Medical Leave Act and fought for seven years, overcoming two presidential vetoes, until it finally became law. Since this landmark bill was enacted in 1993, an estimated 50 million workers have taken advantage of the program, allowing them to care for a loved one without fear of losing the job they need.

The ad also highlights Dodd's ability to reach across the aisle to achieve the results people are looking for. St. Petersburg Times columnist Adam C. Smith has said, "At a time when Americans are fed up with petty partisanship, [Chris Dodd] has a record of reaching across the aisle to get things done in Washington."

Edwards To Complete Visits To All 99 Iowa Counties During Four-Day Tour Of Iowa

EDWARDS TO COMPLETE VISITS TO ALL 99 IOWA COUNTIES DURING FOUR-DAY TOUR OF IOWA
Milestone Reflects Commitment to Answering Questions, Standing Up for Regular Iowans

Des Moines, Iowa – On Saturday, October 27th, 2007, the final day of a four-day tour across Iowa to support Iowa families and Iowa values, Senator John Edwards will reach a major milestone in his campaign: having visited and answered questions from Iowans in all 99 Iowa counties.  Edwards will celebrate this milestone at a “99 County, 50 State Path to Victory” event in Des Moines on Saturday evening.

“I am proud that I will have visited and taken questions from caucus goers in all of Iowa’s 99 counties,” said Edwards.  “I have been able to listen to the concerns of regular, hard-working Iowans from across the state.  I am committed to being a voice for regular Americans, whether they live in the biggest city or the smallest town.  I am also committed to competing and winning in all 99 counties and all 50 states.  Americans from every part of the country need a president who will listen to them and fight for them.”

Saturday’s milestone will be the latest in a series of recent victories for the campaign and adds to the momentum growing behind Edwards in recent weeks. Earlier this month, for example, Edwards won the endorsement of the Iowa Service Employees International Union and 10 other SEIU state councils representing more than one million workers.  Building on the campaign’s grassroots momentum, today the Edwards campaign launched an Iowa Online Action Center so Iowans have the chance to help Edwards change America from the comfort of their own home. The Iowa Action Center empowers Iowans to:

  • Join the campaign, supporter groups, and mobile list
  • Take action online by inviting friends to join the campaign
  • Submit letters to the editor
  • Write a testimonial about why they are supporting Edwards
  • Read more about Edwards’ plans for our country

The Iowa Action Center is part of the campaign’s effort to build grassroots organizations in all 99 counties.  The Edwards campaign is on track to be the first campaign to announce steering committees in every county.  The campaign has also announced County Chairs and Rural County Chairs in all 99 counties.

Tomorrow, Edwards will start his trip to Iowa by announcing his plans to protect the hunting and fishing tradition.  During the trip, he will also deliver a major policy address in Des Moines, and hold numerous community meetings around the state to take questions from regular Iowans on important issues.
