General Wesley K. Clark Endorses Clinton

General Wesley K. Clark Endorses Clinton
The Clinton Campaign today announced the endorsement of Ret. General Wesley K. Clark.

“The world has reached a critical point, and we need a leader in the White House with the courage, intelligence and humility to navigate through many troubling challenges to our security at home and abroad. I believe Senator Clinton is that leader, and I whole-heartedly endorse her for President of the United States,” General Clark said. “Our economic and national security has become more complicated than ever before, and we deserve a leader who draws on wisdom, compassion, intelligence and moral courage -- in short, we need Hillary Clinton. She is tough but fair, a rock-solid leader equal to the many weighty challenges ahead of us."

After 34 years of service in the United States Army, General Clark rose to the rank of four-star general as NATO's Supreme Allied Commander, Europe. General Clark commanded Operation Allied Force, which saved 1.5 million Albanians from ethnic cleansing in Kosovo, and he was responsible for the peacekeeping operation in Bosnia.

General Clark's awards and honors include the Presidential Medal of Freedom, The State Department Distinguished Service Award; the US Department of Defense Distinguished Service Medal;(five awards), The US Army Distinguished Service Medal(two awards), The Silver Star, the Bronze Star (two awards), the Purple Heart, and Honorary Knighthoods from the British and Dutch governments.

After his retirement in 2000, General Clark became an investment banker, author, commentator, and businessman. He is the author of the best selling books Waging Modern War: Bosnia, Kosovo and the Future of Combat and Winning Modern War: Iraq, Terrorism and the American Empire.

"I am deeply admiring of General Clark’s record of leadership for our country and his appreciation of the complexity of the world in which we live today,” Clinton said. “I’m looking forward to his involvement in my campaign and working together to bring the change this country needs.”

General Wesley K. Clark, USA (ret) on his Endorsement of Senator Clinton

General Wesley K. Clark, USA (ret) on his Endorsement of Senator Clinton

"Senator Hillary Clinton has earned the support of millions of Americans in her campaign for president -- and today I am pleased to count myself among them. The world has reached a critical point, and we need a leader in the White House with the courage, intelligence and humility to navigate through many troubling challenges to our security at home and abroad. I believe Senator Clinton is that leader, and I whole-heartedly endorse her for President of the United States. Senator Clinton and I share a worldview in which diplomacy is the best first-strike tool in our arsenal; in today's complicated global system, the United States should be making more friends than enemies."

Never before have so many Americans had our well-being so closely tied to world events. Our economic and national security has become more complicated than ever before, and we deserve a leader who draws on wisdom, compassion, intelligence and moral courage -- in short, we need Hillary Clinton. She is tough but fair, a rock-solid leader equal to the many weighty challenges ahead of us."

Rudy Giuliani Campaign Launches First Web Ad, “She Changed”

Rudy Giuliani Campaign Launches First Web Ad, “She Changed”

New York City - The Rudy Giuliani Presidential Committee today announced it will launch its first web ad, entitled “She Changed.”  The ad focuses on Senator Clinton’s politically expedient positions on the War in Iraq, as well as her support for the ad attacking General Patraeus placed by MoveOn.org in The New York Times.

The web ad goes up at www.JoinRudy2008.com beginning today.

Script is below.

Script for “She Changed”:

NARRATOR: “In 2002, Hillary Clinton voted to authorize military action in Iraq … because she believed it was the right thing to do.”

CLINTON: “If left unchecked, Saddam Hussein will continue to increase his capacity to wage biological and chemical warfare, and will keep trying to develop nuclear weapons.”

CLINTON: “He has also given aid, comfort and sanctuary to terrorists, including Al-Qaeda members.”

CLINTON: “So it is with conviction that I support this resolution as being in the best interests of our nation.”

NARRATOR: “But now that she’s running for President, Hillary Clinton has changed her position, even joining with the radical group MoveOn.org in attacking American General Petraeus. Clinton stood silently by when MoveOn.org ran this venomous ad in The New York Times.”

NARRATOR: “The same General she called an expert not long ago.”

NARRATOR: “Now, she is questioning his honesty.”

HILLARY CLINTON: “The reports that you provide to us really require the willing suspension of disbelief.”

NARRATOR: “Just when our troops need all our support to finish the job, Hillary Clinton is turning her back on them. General Petraeus and the brave men and women now serving under him deserve an apology. And our nation deserves better. Senator Clinton, do the right thing. Apologize for your comments and condemn the MoveOn.org ad.”

The Republican Party Of Iowa To Host Presidential Debate
FOX News Channel To Televise December 4 Event

The Republican Party of Iowa announced today that it will host a debate featuring major Republican candidates for President of the United States.  The event, to be held on December 4, will be the first debate in Iowa to be televised by FOX News Channel this election season, as well as the first debate sponsored by the Republican Party of Iowa, announced Ray Hoffmann, Chairman of the Republican Party of Iowa.

In making the announcement, Hoffmann said, "This debate will be crucial for Iowa and the rest of the nation to see and hear our Republican presidential candidates prior to their first test in January - the Iowa caucus. We hope this debate can educate and motivate Iowans to come out on caucus night, get involved in our grassroots process and voice their opinions."

Marty Ryan, FOX News Executive Producer of Political Programs, added, "With its first-in-the-nation status, Iowa plays a vital role in the political process, and as one of the final debates before the caucuses, it will be even more important to tune in and learn where these candidates stand on issues that matter to Iowans and Americans alike."

Edwards Addresses Nation In Response To President Bush’s Iraq Plan

EDWARDS ADDRESSES NATION IN RESPONSE TO BUSH’S IRAQ PLAN
First time a candidate for president has used a national televised address to rebut Bush on Iraq

Chapel Hill, North Carolina – Senator John Edwards addressed the nation this evening in a televised response to President Bush’s speech on Iraq.  In his address, which aired on MSNBC after President Bush’s remarks, Edwards reminded the American people that Congress can – and must – force an immediate troop withdrawal from Iraq. Edwards’ comments marked the first time a presidential candidate has used a national televised address to speak to the American people about President Bush’s refusal to change course in Iraq.

“Our troops are stuck between a president without a plan to succeed and a Congress without the courage to bring them home,” Edwards said in the address. “Supporting our troops and pursuing a failed war are not the same things – whatever George Bush would have us believe.  All Americans honor the incredible sacrifice of our troops. They have done everything asked of them with courage and resolve. Now we should bring them home.”

In the address Edwards said that the only way to force the Iraqis to take responsibility and negotiate a political solution is to begin withdrawing troops – immediately.  Edwards criticized President Bush for refusing to change “the only strategy he has ever had – more time, more troops and more war.”

Edwards concluded his remarks by reminding the American people that Congress must answer to them. “Tell Congress you know the truth – they have the power to end this war and you expect them to use it,” said Edwards. “When the president asks for more money and more time, Congress needs to tell him he only gets one choice: a firm timeline for withdrawal.  No timeline, no funding. No excuses.”

Edwards has been a leader in calling on Congress to stand firm against the president – and this isn’t the first time he’s asked the American people to join him in this call. In May, Edwards launched a groundbreaking multimedia ad campaign, entitled “We the People,” which featured regular Americans urging Congress not to back down to President Bush’s veto and to continue to send him Iraq funding bills containing a timeline for withdrawal.

Full transcript below.

-30-

This week - as we will forever - we remember those lost on September 11th. And this week, Washington refocuses on Iraq. But the question of Iraq is separate from September 11th – as it has always been, whatever George Bush would have us believe.

Likewise, supporting our troops and pursuing a failed war are not the same things – whatever George Bush would have us believe.

All Americans honor the incredible sacrifice of our troops. They have done everything asked of them with courage and resolve. Now we should bring them home.

They are policing a civil war, and the only way to end that civil war is for both sides, Sunni and Shia, to take responsibility to end it by agreeing to a political solution. And the only way to force them to take responsibility is to withdraw our troops – starting now.

Unfortunately, the president is pressing on with the only strategy he has ever had – more time, more troops and more war.

In January, after years of evidence that military actions cannot force a political solution, the president announced a military surge to force a political solution. In May, he vetoed a plan to end the war, demanded more time to show the surge could work, and Congress gave it to him. Now, after General Petraeus reports the surge has produced no progress toward a political solution, what does the president want? More time for the surge to work, when we know it won't.

Our troops are stuck between a president without a plan to succeed and a Congress without the courage to bring them home.

But Congress must answer to the American people. Tell Congress you know the truth - they have the power to end this war and you expect them to use it. When the president asks for more money and more time, Congress needs to tell him he only gets one choice: a firm timeline for withdrawal.

No timeline, no funding. No excuses.

It is time to end this war.

Kevin McCarthy Endorses Joe Biden For President

IOWA HOUSE MAJORITY LEADER REP. KEVIN McCARTHY ENDORSES JOE BIDEN FOR PRESIDENT
Campaign Makes Major Announcement As it Kicks Off 4-Day Swing Through Iowa

Des Moines, IA (September 13, 2007) – Standing on the steps of the Iowa State Capitol this morning, House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (D-Des Moines) became the 8th Iowa state legislator to endorse Joe Biden for President. Rep. McCarthy was joined by two of his colleagues, Reps. Doris Kelley (D-Waterloo) and Assistant Majority Leader John Whitaker (D-Hillsboro), both of whom endorsed Sen. Biden in recent weeks.

"Iraq is by far the single most important issue facing America today and Joe Biden has the most credible plan to get us out without causing further chaos” said Majority Leader McCarthy. “His plan - coupled with his unmatched foreign policy experience - make Joe Biden the best choice to lead America out of the crisis in Iraq...and besides...I like him."

“Representative McCarthy’s proven leadership and recent success in winning back control of the Iowa House brings a powerful dimension to our campaign” said National Political Director Danny O’Brien. “Kevin’s endorsement – and that of his colleagues – speaks volumes of the confidence Iowa’s elected officials have in Joe Biden’s unique ability to lead our country during these challenging times at home and abroad.”

“It is an honor to have Kevin join our Iowa team” said Sen. Biden. “Having watched Kevin lead the fight in taking back control of the House last year, I saw early on his leadership skills and drive to restore a Democratic agenda in Iowa. I look forward to Kevin campaigning with me as I work to win the Iowa caucus.”

McCarthy joins seven Democratic legislators in a growing list of elected officials supporting Joe Biden in the Hawkeye state: State Sen. Joe Seng (Davenport), Rep. John Whitaker (Hillsboro), Rep. Doris Kelley (Waterloo) Rep. Lisa Heddens (Ames), Rep. Jim Lykam (Davenport), Rep. Mike Reasoner (Creston), and Rep. Dick Taylor (Cedar Rapids).

Jeff Danielson Endorses Chris Dodd For President

IOWA SENATE PRESIDENT PRO-TEM JEFF DANIELSON ENDORSES CHRIS DODD FOR PRESIDENT
First Member of Senate Democratic Leadership to Endorse, Will Co-Chair Dodd Iowa Steering Committee

CEDAR FALLS – State Senator and Senate President Pro-Tempore Jeff Danielson announced today that he is endorsing Chris Dodd for President. Danielson is the first member of Iowa’s Senate Democratic leadership to endorse a presidential candidate. In addition to the endorsement, he will serve as a Co-Chair of Dodd’s Iowa Steering Committee, and a member of Dodd’s National Steering Committee.

Danielson, a professional Fire Fighter in Cedar Falls and a veteran of six years in the U.S. Navy, cited Dodd’s proven record of leadership and experience in keeping America strong, as well as his record of bringing people together to get things done.

“When it comes to protecting this country and strengthening our communities, proven leadership and experience matter,” said Danielson.  “I am supporting Chris Dodd, because he is the candidate I trust to keep America safe and keep our middle class families strong. Time and time again, Chris Dodd has shown not only that he has thoughtful, bold ideas, but that he has the ability to pull people together to get them done.

“With the stakes so high for our country in this election, Chris Dodd is the proven leader we need in the White House and the proven winner we need as our Democratic nominee. I am proud to be endorsing Chris Dodd, and I’m ready to go to work across this state on behalf of his campaign.”

Danielson, 37, has represented Iowa Senate District 10 since 2004. His election to the Senate leadership by his peers last year made him the youngest President Pro-Tem in Iowa history.

“Jeff Danielson is one of the most respected leaders in the Iowa Senate, and I could not be prouder to have his support,” said Senator Dodd. “As a Fire Fighter, a Senator, and a veteran, Jeff knows on a very personal level about the responsibility we have to protect our communities and to strengthen our families. He will be a tremendous asset to our campaign as a leader, a representative, and an advisor.”
