Clinton Names Alvin Brown Senior Adviser

Clinton Names Alvin Brown Senior Adviser
Former White House Aide Will Advise Campaign on Urban Policy

The Clinton Campaign announced today that Alvin Brown, former White House Senior Adviser and immediate past Chairman of the National Black MBA Association, has joined Hillary’s campaign as a Senior Adviser on urban policy.

“Alvin Brown brings substantial policy experience and insight to our campaign, and I’m delighted he’s joined our team,” Clinton said.

“My hometown of Columbia is just one of many communities that have been helped by the empowerment zones Alvin championed during his time in the White House,” said House Majority Whip Jim Clyburn of South Carolina. “Alvin has been a leader on the critical issues facing urban areas--economic development, affordable housing and entrepreneurship-- and I know he will continue to work to expand economic opportunity for all Americans.”

Prior to his work in the White House, Brown held a number of key positions in the Administration, including Senior Adviser to the late Commerce Secretary Ron Brown, where he focused on base closure and defense conversion, and Senior Adviser to Housing and Urban Development Secretary Andrew Cuomo. While at HUD, Brown was responsible for overseeing the Department’s $100 million disaster recovery initiative, which included leading and overhaul of the Department’s response effort.

“Alvin and I worked together for years creating public-private partnerships to bring new investment and spur entrepreneurship in America’s cities,” said BET founder and businessman Bob Johnson. “He not only understands policy, he understands people. Alvin will be a tremendous asset to Senator Clinton and her campaign.”

Brown said Clinton’s commitment to America’s cities was critical to his decision to join her campaign. “Hillary Clinton is ready to lead this country from her first day in the White House,” Brown said. “I believe her vision will empower and inspire a new generation of Americans to make this country a better place.”

Rudy Giuliani Unveils Twelve Commitments to the American People

Bedford, NH – During a speech at the Old Bedford Town Hall in New Hampshire today, Mayor Rudy Giuliani announced Twelve Commitments to the American people, a bold vision aimed at moving America forward through change and reform, overcoming new challenges and increasing accountability in Washington.

Rudy’s Twelve Commitments are based on the principles of giving people more freedom, more power, and more responsibility over their own lives, while protecting our nation, strengthening our economy, and improving the quality of life.

“I believe America solves its problems best from strength, not weakness, and from optimism, not pessimism,” Giuliani said. “My Twelve Commitments are a promise to this generation and generations to come that we will keep the American dream alive. I believe it’s the kind of leadership and common sense accountability the American people need in Washington.”

Mayor Giuliani will travel the country this summer to detail each of his Twelve Commitments.

The Twelve Commitments:

  • I will keep America on offense in the Terrorists’ War on Us.
  • I will end illegal immigration, secure our borders, and identify every non-citizen in our nation.
  • I will restore fiscal discipline and cut wasteful Washington spending.
  • I will cut taxes and reform the tax code.
  • I will impose accountability on Washington.
  • I will lead America towards energy independence.
  • I will give Americans more control over, and access to, healthcare with affordable and portable free-market solutions.
  • I will increase adoptions, decrease abortions, and protect the quality of life for our children.
  • I will reform the legal system and appoint strict constructionist judges.
  • I will ensure that every community in America is prepared for terrorist attacks and natural disasters.
  • I will provide access to a quality education to every child in America by giving real school choice to parents.
  • I will expand America’s involvement in the global economy and strengthen our reputation around the world.

George W. Bush 2000 Announcement Anniversary

bush2000

George W. Bush For President Announcement in Cedar Rapids, Iowa on Saturday, June 12, 1999.

"I have come here today to tell you this: I am running for President of the United States. There's no turning back, and I intend to be the next President of the United States.

I'm running because our country must be prosperous. But prosperity must have a purpose. The purpose of prosperity is to make sure the American dream touches every willing heart. The purpose of prosperity is to leave no one out, to leave no one behind. I'm running because my party must match a conservative mind with a compassionate heart. And I'm running to win.

It feels to me like an old era of American politics is ending -- like Americans are waiting for new hopes, new energy, new idealism. We will prove that someone who is conservative and compassionate can win without sacrificing principle. We will show that politics, after a time of tarnished ideals, can be higher and better. We will give our country a fresh start after a season of cynicism.

We have a long way to go, but we start today. And I hope you'll join me."

Governor Bill Richardson Jumps to 10% In Latest CNN/WMUR-TV New Hampshire Poll

Governor Bill Richardson Jumps to 10% in Latest CNN/WMUR-TV New Hampshire Poll
Richardson now in top tier - within 2 points of John Edwards

SANTA FE, NM -- New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson has jumped to 10% in the latest CNN/USA Today New Hampshire poll of Democratic Presidential candidates- a gain of 6 points since April. The poll was taken June 6-8, following the CNN/WMUR TV Democratic Presidential debate on June 3.

"New Hampshire voters clearly are responding to Governor Richardson's strong debate performance- they're getting to know him and learn about his unprecedented record of accomplishment," said Dave Contarino, Governor Richardson's campaign manager. "The new poll numbers are consistent with what we see as we travel throughout New Hampshire and the country - growing enthusiasm and support for Governor Richardson as people hear his vision for America. New Hampshire is critically important to our campaign strategy, and the Governor will continue to spend a lot of his time there. We're right where we want to be - slow, steady growth in the polls and on goal with fundraising."

Governor Richardson also hit the 10% mark in Iowa in a recent poll published by the Des Moines Register.

The list of candidates in the New Hampshire poll includes former Vice President Al Gore who is not a declared Presidential candidate. When he is removed from the list, Governor Richardson's number increases to 11%.

JFK Presidential Library to Host Democratic Presidential Candidates' Debate

Kennedy Presidential Library to Host Democratic Presidential Candidates' Debate

JFK Library to Partner with CNN and Politico.com -

Boston, MA – The John F. Kennedy Library Foundation today announced that Caroline Kennedy has invited the leading Democratic Presidential candidates to the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum in Boston, Massachusetts for a nationally televised presidential debate on Monday, December 17, 2007.

Joining the Kennedy Presidential Library for this historic event will be CNN as the television partner and Politico.com as the internet partner.

The Politico (www.POLITICO.com) will provide an exclusive opportunity for viewers to question the candidates via the internet. The debate will air nationally on CNN, with full coverage on www.CNN.com.

“My father’s presidential library is an ideal venue for those who seek the Democratic Party’s nomination for President,” said Caroline Kennedy, President of the John F. Kennedy Library Foundation. “President Kennedy championed public service and viewed politics as a noble and honorable profession. His legacy is one of decisive leadership, strong national defense, effective government, public responsibility and service, and equal opportunity for all Americans. It is therefore fitting that his library host a debate for the American people among the candidates who seek to lead our nation.”

The December 17 debate at the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library will be the first debate of Democratic Presidential Candidates to be held at a Presidential Library, and will be a unique opportunity for web cast viewers across the country to ask questions of the candidates. In 1960, presidential candidates Senator John F. Kennedy (D) and Vice-President Richard M. Nixon (R) held the first nationally televised presidential debate in the nation's history. In 2000, the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum joined with the University of Massachusetts Boston in hosting the first presidential debate between Vice President Al Gore and Texas Governor George W. Bush.

The John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum is a presidential library administered by the National Archives and Records Administration and supported, in part, by the John F. Kennedy Library Foundation, a non-profit organization. The Kennedy Presidential Library and the Kennedy Library Foundation seek to promote, through educational and community programs, a greater appreciation and understanding of American politics, history, and culture, the process of governing and the importance of public service.   Click here for more information about the Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum.

The Politico and Politico.com were a sponsor of the Republican Presidential Candidates debate at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library on May 3, 2007.

Richardson Airs "Job Interview" TV Ad

Richardson Airs Third "Job Interview" TV Ad
Unique Ad Series Continues with New Spot Focusing on Global Warming

SANTA FE, NM - Governor Bill Richardson's campaign today released the third "Job Interview" TV ad in the series that has become the talk of the Presidential campaign. The spot features Governor Richardson making the case that, under his stewardship, "no other state has done as much as New Mexico" to fight global warming.

To view the ad, fact sheet and background document, please go to:

http://action.richardsonforpresident.com/page/content/askedyou/

"This ad was fun to make - watch the ending - you'll see why, but global warming is a serious subject that I think is critically important for the health of our planet. I think this ad communicates that in a memorable way," said Governor Bill Richardson.

Recent New Hampshire and Iowa polling has shown the Governor climbing into contention with between 8-10 percent of the primary and caucus vote. This polling comes on the heels of Governor Richardson's groundbreaking TV ad campaign - the first major presidential candidate to run humorous advertising in modern political history.

"We've gotten a tremendous response to both these ads and the Governor's record," said campaign manager Dave Contarino. "The excitement over the interview ads is clearly helping drive the Governor's rise in the polls in both Iowa and New Hampshire, where the ads have run."

In the new ad, Governor Richardson points out to the skeptical job interviewer that under his leadership, New Mexico passed tax credits for wind, solar and bio-fuels energy production. Utility companies are now required to produce energy from renewable sources, and he set tough standards to reduce greenhouse emissions.

The League of Conservation Voters has praised Governor Richardson's environmental proposals as the most aggressive plan of any candidate for president, saying "Richardson sets the highest goals for reducing global warming pollution and increasing production from renewable energy sources." Sierra Club President Carl Pope said Governor Richardson's plan "raised the bar" in the fight against global warming, and is "much more aggressive than anything we've seen so far from the candidates. It is also significantly better elaborated ..."

To read more of Governor Richardson's Clean Energy plan, please go to:

http://www.richardsonforpresident.com/issues/energy

The new commercial will begin running Monday, June 11th on broadcast affiliates and cable systems in Iowa, and will begin running soon thereafter in New Hampshire. The Governor's campaign commercials were produced by Steve Murphy and Mark Putnam of Murphy Putnam Media in Alexandria, Virginia.

"Asked You" -- Bill Richardson for President -- 30 second TV

[Governor Richardson in job interview setting]

"Global warming is critical for the next president."
And no other state has done as much as New Mexico.
We passed tax credits for wind, solar and bio fuels.
Utility companies have to use renewable sources.
And I set tough standards to reduce greenhouse emissions.
President Bush doesn't follow the Kyoto Treaty, but my state does.
I can do all that as president.

[Job Interviewer]
But what I asked you … was if you were a tree, what kind of tree would you be?

[Video cuts to logo and music sting]

[Governor’s voice off-camera]
"I’m Bill Richardson and I approved this message."

Senator McCain and his wife Cindy applaud the increasing role of women in elected office and American politics and believe this group will be instrumental in growing the campaign's outreach efforts and winning increased support from New Hampshire women.

"Now more than ever, America needs strong leadership," said Mary Lyons, a member of the New Hampshire "Women for McCain" steering committee from Portsmouth. "And I have never seen John McCain back down from dealing with tough issues."
