Redefining 2012: Historic Investments in Swing States
A fundamental pitch of the RGA’s Four Year Plan has always been that our nominee for president would have a much better opportunity to carry critical swing states if we have Republican governors in place promulgating good policy and building strong state parties. Thus, we’ve spent $49.5 million in 10 swing states we deem critical to 2012 to put us in a position to do just that headed into 2012.
Below are the ten swing states holding governors’ races tomorrow:
• Arizona
• Colorado
• Florida
• Iowa
• Michigan
• Nevada
• New Mexico
• Ohio
• Pennsylvania
• Wisconsin
Of the 10 swing states holding governors’ races this year, 8 had Democratic governors in 2008. We are confident we can win more than the majority of these states, and are competitive in 9 of the 10 states.
President Obama carried every one of the above swing states that had a Democratic
governor with the exception of Arizona.
By winning back a majority of these states or more, we will present a steep climb and difficult map for the President's reelection campaign. That was a driving factor of why RGA invested so heavily in all of the above. Our candidates and the RGA made these states competitive and put us in a competitive position in 9 out of 10.
