LAS VEGAS, NV – Amy Tarkanian, Chairman of the Nevada Republican Party, issued the following release regarding Florida's decision to move the date of its primary.
 
"Florida's decision to move its primary is disappointing and, frankly, disrespectful of the other early primary states and the process as a whole.  Because the date of Nevada's caucus is, by rule, four days after New Hampshire's, we will move Nevada's First in the West caucus if the New Hampshire GOP moves theirs.  No matter what, we will not allow this disruption to interfere with our goal of creating a Presidential caucus that will be the pride of the western states.  This situation gives Nevadans the opportunity to showcase our ability to adapt and establish our state as a major player in national politics."

DEBATE DATE SET ON EVE OF FLORIDA PRIMARY

NEW YORK – September 30, 2011 – NBC News, National Journal, The St. Petersburg Times, and the Florida Council of 100 today announced that their Republican presidential primary debate will take place on Monday, January 30, 2012. The event will fall on the eve of the Florida primary, which state officials today declared will be January 31.

The jointly sponsored debate, first announced in April, will be held at the St. Pete Times Forum in Tampa, site of the 2012 Republican National Convention. It is the first time that presidential primary candidates will debate in the arena where one of them will return to accept the nomination.

This historic event will be broadcast in Tampa by WFLA and statewide on other NBC stations as well as air nationally on MSNBC and stream on msnbc.com.

Governor Scott Walker signed Senate Bill 115 to change primary election date to April 3rd

Madison–This morning Governor Scott Walker signed Senate Bill 115, which changes the presidential primary election date in Wisconsin, into law as Act 45. The presidential primary will now take place on the same day as the spring general election. Wisconsin’s previous presidential primary date was in February, and with the signing of this law it will move to April.
 
“Holding Wisconsin’s presidential primary election on the same day as the routine spring elections will make the administration of our elections more cost efficient—saving valuable taxpayer dollars,” said Governor Walker. “I was pleased to sign a bill into law this morning that received support from Republicans, Democrats and the Legislature’s one independent member. Moving forward I am hopeful we can continue down the path of working together to help create an economic environment that allows the private sector to create 250,000 new jobs by 2015.”

Today, under the authority provided them by Florida statute and their selection by Governor Scott, Speaker Cannon and Senate President Haridopolos, the nine members of the Presidential Preference Primary Date Selection Committee chose January 31st as our state’s date. As I have said before, the Republican Party of Florida was always prepared to work with the date selected by those with the legal authority to do so. We appreciate that the Committee engaged in a thorough process. That process included discussion of a range of dates from January 3rd to March 6th or later, so this compromise of January 31st  properly reflects the importance Florida will play on the national stage. We look forward to having a great primary, and then hosting a world-class convention for our party’s nominee. Florida will be the most important state in our efforts to defeat Barack Obama.

Tallahassee—Today the Republican Party of Florida and CNN have entered into an agreement to co-host a nationally-televised debate on a date between January 22 and January 31. The move ensures Florida voters, and the nation, will hear directly from the Republican presidential contenders just before Florida’s January 31st primary. The debate will be held in a venue in Jacksonville.

“The Republican Party of Florida is excited to be working with CNN for a debate linked to the state’s primary date,” said RPOF Chairman Lenny Curry. “The opportunity to host it in my home city, Jacksonville, helps shine the national spotlight on another region of Florida that our eventual nominee must win.”

Florida Governor Rick Scott said of the announcement, “After national debates in Tampa and Orlando, this latest partnership with CNN for a debate in Jacksonville in January demonstrates the crucial role Florida will play, not only in the Republican Presidential Primary, but in the general election next November.”

Columbia, S.C. – SCGOP Chairman Chad Connelly today issued a statement following Florida’s decision to move its primary to January 31, 2012:
 
“Today’s decision by Florida is hugely disappointing and could have been avoided. Rogue states have once again dictated the Presidential nominating calendar. I call on my fellow RNC members and all Republicans to strongly condemn Florida’s decision to hold their primary on January 31.
 
“States who have worked so hard to maintain the nominating calendar should not be penalized and the offenders, including Florida, should lose their entire allocations of delegates at the National Convention. Rules matter and the four traditional early states (Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada and South Carolina) did everything they could to avoid this unfortunate situation.
 
“South Carolina’s primary date will not be announced today.”

2012 Bowl Championship Series (BCS) Dates

As a result of continued uncertainty involving the upcoming National Football League schedule, the Bowl Championship Series (BCS) group today announced a change in dates for three of its upcoming bowl games in order to avoid possible conflicts with NFL Monday Night Football.

The Allstate Sugar Bowl will be played Tuesday, Jan. 3; the Discover Orange Bowl will be played Wednesday, Jan. 4; and the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl will be played Thursday, Jan. 5.

The Rose Bowl presented by VIZIO will remain Monday afternoon, January 2, and the Allstate BCS National Championship game remains Monday, Jan. 9.

"We consulted the involved parties and made a careful decision to choose dates that will ensure a prime-time showcase for our student-athletes while also being mindful of the potential for change in the NFL's schedule," said BCS Executive Director Bill Hancock. "At this point in time, we want to create certainty in a somewhat uncertain scheduling environment."

ATLANTA – Texas Gov. Rick Perry today received the endorsement of 45 Republican Georgia lawmakers in his campaign for president. This represents more than one-third of the state’s Republican lawmakers, including well over half of state Senate Republicans.

“Rick Perry is the candidate who will get America working again,” said Economic Development Chairman and Governor Deal’s Floor Leader, State Senator Ronnie Chance. “Under his leadership, Texas gained more than one million net new jobs. Gov. Perry’s record proves that he is the right choice for our nation.”

“Rick Perry doesn’t just talk about conservative reform, he backs it up with actions,” said State Representative Allen Peake, Majority Caucus Secretary/Treasurer.  “Gov. Perry is a principled conservative who has cut taxes, reduced spending and stood up to the job-killing regulations from Washington bureaucrats.”
