Congresswoman Michele Bachmann Wins GOP Straw Poll at Minnesota State Fair
St. Paul – Republican Party of Minnesota Chairman Tony Sutton released the following statement regarding the state party’s presidential straw poll at the Minnesota State Fair from August 25-September 5.
“State fairgoers who stopped by the Republican Party of Minnesota booth took advantage of the opportunity to make their voices heard by voting in the MNGOP presidential straw poll. With 7731 votes cast, Congresswoman Michele Bachmann won the straw poll with 2300 votes. Governor Rick Perry followed with 1901 votes. Congressman Ron Paul finished third with 1181 votes. Visitors to the MNGOP building had a great time voting and debating with fellow fairgoers the merits of each candidate. As a grassroots party, the MNGOP doesn’t anoint candidates; party members decide who the nominee will be and then the party supports that choice. It was exciting to see the enthusiasm of grassroots activism playing out at the fair,” said Chairman Sutton. “The Republican Party of Minnesota looks forward to working with conservatives throughout our great state to turn Minnesota red in 2012 and helping make Barack Obama a one term president.”
