Resurgent Republic Announces Haley Barbour as Honorary Chairman
Washington, D.C. (April 6, 2012) – Resurgent Republic, a center-right research organization dedicated to shaping the debate over the proper role of government, announced today that former Governor Haley Barbour will serve as Honorary Chairman during Ed Gillespie’s leave of absence.
"I look forward to taking on a more active role with Resurgent Republic. Since its founding nearly three years ago, this organization has been at the forefront of the national debate at key points during the Obama Administration and is well-positioned to identify and track public opinion trends leading up to November,” said Governor Haley Barbour.
Governor Barbour returned to BGR in January of 2012 after serving two consecutive terms as Governor of Mississippi and two years as the Chairman of the Republican Governors Association. He is a veteran political strategist with more than four decades of experience, including service as Chairman of the Republican National Committee, White House Political Director, and numerous presidential campaigns. He also serves on Resurgent Republic’s Advisory Board.
Resurgent Republic Board Member Ed Gillespie will take a leave of absence effective immediately to become a Senior Advisor to the Romney for President campaign. In 2009 Ed Gillespie co-founded Resurgent Republic along with pollster Whit Ayres, President of North Star Opinion Research. Leslie Sanchez joined the Board of Directors in 2010.
