WASHINGTON —Americans in all 50 states have responded to President Obama and Vice President Biden’s call to service, and will be participating in the National Day of Service on Saturday, January 19, 2013. Countless Americans have signed up at www.2013pic.org/service to serve on Saturday and have pledged to ongoing service as part of the National Day of Service.
In 2009, President Obama and the First Lady started the tradition of holding a National Day of Service the weekend before the swearing-in. President Obama has always believed that everyone has something they can contribute to their community, and that America works best when neighbors help neighbors.
“This inauguration is truly a national celebration, with Americans serving their communities in all 50 states,” said PIC President and CEO Steve Kerrigan. “Whether you are recruiting mentors in my home state of Massachusetts, teaching the value of healthy eating in Georgia, or cleaning up the damage from forest fires in Colorado, all Americans can play an important role in this Inauguration.”
