PRESIDENT OBAMA TO LAY OUT VISION TO RESTORE MIDDLE-CLASS ECONOMIC SECURITY IN NEVADA

On Tuesday, August 21, President Obama will continue his two-day tour of Ohio and Nevada with a grassroots event in Reno, NV and a grassroots event in Las Vegas, NV on Wednesday, August 22. The President will discuss the choice in this election between two fundamentally different visions of how to grow the economy, create middle-class jobs and pay down the debt. 

President Obama has a vision for an economy built from the middle out, not the top down.  During his first term, the President has already cut taxes for a typical Nevada family by $3,700 over four years.  This has helped families afford to send their children to college, buy their first home, pay for health care and child care.  The centerpiece of the Romney-Ryan economic plan is a proposal to provide $5 trillion in additional tax breaks weighted toward the wealthy.  Independent estimates find that the Romney-Ryan plan would cut taxes for multi-millionaires by $250,000, even as it raises taxes on middle class families with kids by an average of $2,000.

Vice President Biden to Travel to Minnesota and Michigan

CHICAGO – On Tuesday, August 21, Vice President Biden will travel to Minneapolis and Rochester, Minnesota for campaign events with supporters. On Wednesday, August 22, the Vice President will travel to Detroit, Michigan for a campaign event with supporters.

President Obama and Vice President Biden believe the only way to create an economy built to last is to build it from the middle out, not from the top down. Vice President Biden will discuss the choice voters in Minnesota and Michigan have in this election – a choice between these two fundamentally different visions of how to grow the economy, create middle-class jobs, and pay down the debt.  The Vice President will draw contrasts between the Romney-Ryan approach, which would return us to the failed policies of the past, and President Obama’s plan to move our country forward so that hard work pays off, responsibility is rewarded and everyone gets a fair shot.

CHICAGO – Today, at a grassroots event in Windham, New Hampshire, President Obama will highlight what the Romney-Ryan budget would mean for middle-class Americans and what it would mean for people like Mitt Romney. The Romney-Ryan plan calls for trillions in budget-busting tax cuts for the wealthy paid for with tax hikes on the middle-class and deep cuts in investments that we need to create new jobs and grow our economy.

Below are excerpts of the President’s remarks as prepared for delivery --

“The centerpiece of my opponent’s entire economic plan is a new, $5 trillion tax cut, a lot of it going to the wealthiest Americans. And his new running mate, Congressman Ryan, put forward a plan that would let Governor Romney pay less than 1% in taxes each year. Here’s the kicker: he expects you to pick up the tab. Governor Romney’s tax plan would actually raise taxes on middle-class families with children by an average of $2,000. Not to reduce the deficit, or grow jobs, or invest in education ­but to give another tax cut to people like him.

“Ask Governor Romney and his running mate when they’re here in New Hampshire on Monday if they think that’s fair. Ask them how it’ll grow the economy, or strengthen the middle-class. They have tried to sell us this trickle-down fairy dust before. It didn’t work then and it won’t work now. It’s not a plan to create jobs. It’s not a plan to cut the deficit. And it’s not a plan to move our economy forward.”

Obama for America Releases New Television Ad: “The Same”

CHICAGO – Obama for America is releasing a new television ad that highlights President Obama’s commitment to issues important to women and their families.  The new ad – “The Same” – draws the stark contrast between President Obama and the Romney-Ryan ticket’s record on women’s health. 

Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan have taken extreme positions on issues that matter to women and their families. From promising to “get rid of” Planned Parenthood to backing proposals that would take away a woman’s right to choose, women recognize they cannot trust the Romney-Ryan ticket to stand up for them.

President Obama is committed to protecting women’s health because he knows that women are capable of making their own choices when it comes to their health care. The President has repeatedly fought back against Republican efforts to defund Planned Parenthood, and believes that women – not politicians or the government – should be in control of their own health decisions.  President Obama knows that access to quality, affordable health care means a stronger American middle class.

“The Same” will air in Colorado, Nevada, Virginia, Ohio, Florida, Iowa.
