Obama for America Announces Wisconsin Veterans for Obama Steering Committee
Tracey Sperko and Marv Freedman Named State Co-Chairs
MADISON– Obama for America today named Tracey Sperko, a Persian Gulf veteran from Wauwatosa and Marv Freedman, a Vietnam veteran from Middleton as Co-Chairs of Wisconsin Veterans for Obama Steering Committee. Also announced today are the members of the Wisconsin Veterans for Obama Steering Committee from throughout Wisconsin who have served in our nation's wars from World War II to our most recent ones in Afghanistan and Iraq.
"President Obama has earned our support by his consistent, unwavering support of our country's veterans, military members and their families," said Freedman. "And has shown that support by his actions," citing the following examples:
· Expanding the Post 9/11 GI Bill
· Giving businesses tax credits for hiring veterans
· Providing stable funding for the VA
· Speeding up the VA claims process
· Making treatment of vets with PTSD and readjustment issues a top priority
· Improving access to VA health care for vets in rural areas
The Wisconsin Veterans for Obama Steering Committee is speaking with veterans across the state discussing the President’s outstanding record on veterans, military and national security policy issues.
“I’m proud to be a part of the grassroots organization of veterans and military families fighting to re-elect President Obama," said Tracey Sperko, Co-Chair of the Wisconsin Veterans for Obama Steering Committee. "Veterans have seen incredible progress under President Obama in just three short years. President Obama is committed to repaying the debt our nation owes to service members and their families by expanding and improving veterans’ healthcare, working with the private sector to encourage businesses to hire returning vets, and implementing and improving the Post-9/11 GI Bill. As we’ve come home from war, the President is honoring our service and sacrifices. That’s why veterans and military families of all ages are enthusiastically supporting his reelection.
Steering committee member Jamie Aulik drew contrast with the Romney-Ryan ticket saying, “Romney doesn’t seem to care about honoring the sacred trust America has with veterans and their families. Judging from his record, policies and promises, he would break that trust. As governor of Massachusetts, Romney cut veterans’ programs by hundreds of thousands of dollars just in his first month in office, and he even tried to cut the Department of Veterans Services by more than 11 percent. Now he wants to apply that record, and the draconian values behind it, to the entire country. The Congressional Republican budget, which Romney endorsed as ‘marvelous,’ would slash veterans’ benefits by $11 billion.”
