CHICAGO -- Today, at a grassroots event in Mansfield, Ohio, President Obama will highlight a new report from the Tax Policy Center – a nonpartisan policy think tank -- that concludes that Mitt Romney would have to raise taxes on millions of middle-class families with children by more than $2,000 to pay for his $5 trillion tax plan tilted to the wealthiest.

Below are excerpts of his remarks as prepared for delivery --

“And yet, the centerpiece of my opponent’s entire economic plan is a new, $5 trillion tax cut.  A lot of this tax cut would go to the wealthiest 1% of all households.  Folks making more than $3 million a year – the top one-tenth of one percent – would get a tax cut worth almost a quarter of a million dollars. A quarter of a million dollars. 

“But it gets worse.  Under my opponent’s plan, guess who gets the bill for these $250,000 tax cuts?  You do.  And you don’t have to take my word for it. 

“Just today, an independent, non-partisan organization ran all the numbers.  And they found that if Governor Romney wants to keep his word and pay for his plan, he’d have to cut tax breaks that middle-class families depend on to pay for your home, or your health care, or send your kids to college.  That means the average middle-class family with children would be hit with a tax increase of more than $2,000.

“But here’s the thing – he’s not asking you to contribute more to pay down the deficit, or to invest in our kids’ education.  He’s asking you to pay more so that people like him can get a tax cut.”

CHICAGO -- Obama for America released a new television advertisement today titled “Worried” that highlights the clear choice for voters between Mitt Romney and President Obama’s plans to handle the deficit. Mitt Romney’s would add trillions to the deficit with a $250,000 tax cut for millionaires and an arbitrary increase in military spending not tied to our security needs. On the other hand, President Obama’s balanced plan cuts the deficit by more than $4 trillion through spending cuts and reforms and ensuring everyone pays their fair share, while still making investments in the things we need to grow our economy, like education, clean energy and innovation.  The President’s deficit reduction plan is part of his vision to build an economy meant to last. 

“Worried” will air in Colorado, Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada, Ohio, and Florida.

"You watched and worried: two wars, tax cuts for millionaires, debt piled up. And now we face a choice.

Mitt Romney's plan?

A new $250,000 tax cut for millionaires, increase military spending, adding trillions to the deficit.

Or President Obama's plan?

PRESIDENT OBAMA TO LAY OUT VISION TO RESTORE MIDDLE-CLASS ECONOMIC SECURITY IN ORLANDO, FL AND LEESBURG, VA

CHICAGO- On Thursday, August 2, President Obama will travel to Orlando, FL and Leesburg, VA where he will discuss the choice in this election between two fundamentally different visions of how to grow the economy, create middle-class jobs and pay down the debt.  The President believes the only way to create an economy built to last is to build it from the middle out, not the top down.  He will discuss his plan to restore middle-class security by paying down our debt in a balanced way that ensures everyone pays their fair share and still invests in the things we need to create jobs and grow our economy over the long term, like education, energy, innovation, and infrastructure.

The President will also repeat his call for Congress to act now to give middle-class families some certainty by preventing a scheduled tax increase on 98 percent of Americans, including families across Florida and Virginia.  President Obama has already cut taxes for a typical Florida family by $3,400 over four years and a typical Virginia family by $4,000 over four years.   This has helped families in both states afford to send their children to college, buy their first home, pay for health care and child care. The centerpiece of Mitt Romney’s economic plan is a proposal to provide $5 trillion in additional tax breaks weighted toward the wealthy.  Independent estimates find that Romney’s plan would cut taxes for millionaires by 25 percent, even as it raises taxes on at least 18 million hardworking families.

 Obama for America Launches New Smartphone App to Help Build Largest Grassroots Campaign in History

App Will Help Empower Voters and Volunteers As They Organize Across the Country

CHICAGO -- As part of its ongoing effort to build the largest grassroots campaign in history, Obama for America today launched a new cutting-edge smartphone app that will help empower supporters, volunteers, and voters. The new app, which will be available for iPhones today and for Android devices in the coming days, will bring key information and organizing tools directly to voters’ fingertips.

“The campaign’s strength has always come from the millions of grassroots supporters who are organizing in their communities and talking to their neighbors about President Obama every day,” said Stephanie Cutter, Obama for America deputy campaign manager. “As we push through the last 100 days of this election, our focus remains on helping make grassroots organizing as easy and accessible as possible for the volunteers and supporters that are the heart and soul of this campaign. That’s why we designed our new app to help break down the distinction between online and offline organizing, giving every supporter the same opportunities to get involved that they would find in a field office.”

The app will help supporters participate in the campaign, listing local phone banks and volunteer events, and will even allow volunteers to canvass their neighborhood directly from the app.

It provides up-to-date guidance on everything supporters need to know about where, when and how to vote, including how to register friends, family members and neighbors to vote, and what voters need to know about new voter ID laws in their state.

And it will provide voters with state-by-state, issue-by-issue localized information on how President Obama is moving us forward – from making health insurance plans stronger and more affordable to cutting taxes for middle class families. Ohio residents, for example, will be able to see that the typical family from their state received $3,406 in tax cuts under President Obama.

The app’s features are built to sync with Facebook, Twitter, email and SMS, so that supporters can quickly and easily share information and opportunities to get involved across platforms.

In addition, volunteers, supporters and voters will be able to use the app to:

• · Find and RSVP for events using a full, detailed map that makes it easy to share with friends;
• · Connect to hotlines for reporting voting issues and abuse when we get near Election Day – a tool that will be especially helpful for people in states with new voter ID laws;
• · Join Dashboard, the campaign’s other cutting-edge organizing tool that connects folks neighborhood by neighborhood;
• · Access information on issues as they speak with voters, including localized information on how the President has benefited your state;
• · Canvass their neighborhood, entering feedback and responses in real time; and
• · Access direct links to donate to the campaign.

CHICAGO – Obama for America announced today that President Obama will travel to Ohio, Florida and Virginia next week to lay out his vision to rebuild the economy from the middle out, cut taxes for middle-class families and reduce the country’s deficit. On Wednesday, August 1, the President will travel to Mansfield and Akron, OH for campaign events and on Thursday, August 2, he will travel to Orlando, FL and Leesburg, VA for campaign events.

Iowa Obama Campaign Launches "It Takes One to Get to Six" with Day of Action, Kicking off 60 Day Countdown to Early Voting

DES MOINES – Tomorrow and Sunday, Obama Campaign volunteers in Iowa will participate in an “It Takes One to Get to Six” day of action as part of the "It Takes One" nationwide initiative. The Day of Action begins the 60 day countdown to early vote and the 100 day countdown to Election Day. The campaign is holding canvass kick-off media events in 11 Iowa cities and over 170 events statewide.

Last week, First Lady Michelle Obama kicked off the "It Takes One" initiative with a video. Iowans can follow the canvassing action on Twitter by using the hashtags #ItTakesOne and #60DaysOut.

"That one conversation you have, that one new volunteer you recruit, that could be the difference between waking up on November 7th and feeling the promise of four more years or asking yourself, could I have done more?," said First Lady Michelle Obama.

"Every single person can make a difference in this election – and this week we’re asking supporters to start by taking one action that will help grow our campaign," said Iowa State Director Brad Anderson. "The idea is that if we all commit to doing at least one thing to organize our communities, the combined impact will ensure that this President can keep moving this country forward for another four years."
