Michele Bachmann Files Primary Paperwork in New Hampshire

Washington, DC - Republican presidential candidate Michele Bachmann filed today the necessary paperwork to appear on the New Hampshire presidential primary ballot. The Bachmann for President campaign mailed the papers and the $1000 filing fee to the Secretary of State's office in Concord, NH.

"I'm thrilled to take this important step on the road to securing the Republican nomination for president," Bachmann said. "The people of New Hampshire are a vital part of the process and I look forward to sharing my message with more people in the Granite State."

Urbandale, Iowa – Republican presidential candidate Michele Bachmann announced today that her team has added another strategic adviser to her growing campaign. James L. Pollack has been appointed as National Finance Chairman to lead the Bachmann for President campaign finance efforts.

“Jim’s years of experience in the business and financial industry, as well as his strong Midwestern roots makes him an optimum choice as we expand our campaign in preparation for the upcoming caucuses,” Bachmann said. “Jim will be a huge asset to our campaign moving forward as we take our conservative message to Iowa, South Carolina, New Hampshire and beyond.”

Urbandale, Iowa - Republican presidential candidate Michele Bachmann issued the following statement in response to President Obama's announcement to pull United States troops out of Iraq by the end of the year:

"Today's announcement that we will remove all of our forces from Iraq is a political decision and not a military one; it represents the complete failure of President Obama to secure an agreement with Iraq for our troops to remain there to preserve the peace and demonstrates how far our foreign policy leadership has fallen. In every case where the United States has liberated a people from dictatorial rule, we have kept troops in that country to ensure a peaceful transition and to protect fragile growing democracies. We will now have fewer troops in Iraq than we have in Honduras – despite a costly and protracted war.

"President Obama's decision represents the end of the era of America's influence in Iraq and the strengthening of Iran's influence in Iraq with no plan to counter that influence. We have been ejected from a country by the people that we liberated and that the United States paid for with precious blood and treasure. The administration claims that we got exactly what we needed, but today's announcement demonstrates otherwise. The United States needed a working democratic partnership in Iraq and we should have demanded that Iraq repay the full cost of liberating them given their rich oil revenues. I call on the president to return to the negotiating table with Iraq and lead from the front and not from weakness in Iraq and in the world."

"For more than 40 years, we lived with the Muammar al-Qaddafi regime and the atrocities he orchestrated. The world is a better place without Qaddafi. It is my hope that Qaddafi's reign of terror will be replaced with a government that respects the people of Libya and one that will be a good partner with the United States. Hopefully, today will also bring to an end our military involvement there, something I opposed from its beginning."

Bachmann Commands Stage at CNN Presidential Debate
Bachmann: "The cake is baked – Barack Obama will be a one-term president"

Las Vegas, NV – Fresh off state tours of Iowa and New Hampshire, Republican presidential candidate Michele Bachmann established tonight at the CNN Presidential Debate she is the only candidate in the GOP race that has the answers to solve the pressing issues that concern voters most, including creating jobs, simplifying the tax code, repealing job-killing regulations and protecting our borders.

Leading off the debate, moderator Anderson Cooper asked Bachmann to address her criticism of Herman Cain's "9-9-9" plan. Bachmann stated, "[The 9-9-9 plan] is a value added tax because at every level of production you have a profit, and that profit gets taxed because you produce one portion at one level and then you take it to the next supplier or next level. And you have an exchange and that is a taxable event. It's a hidden tax."

Bachmann continued, "I have a tax plan. I have a jobs plan. I have an energy plan and a plan to turn this country around and create millions of high paying jobs."

Showing her experience as a former federal tax attorney, Bachmann focused on her plan to simplify and restructure the current tax code. "I want to completely abolish the tax code. I want to flatten the tax for all Americans, simplify that tax for all Americans and that creates job growth," Bachmann said. "But it's the regulatory burden that costs us $1.8 trillion every year but it's more than that cost, it's jobs that are lost. We need to repeal Obamacare, repeal the Jobs and Housing Destruction Act known as Dodd-Frank. President Obama's plan has been a plan for destruction for this economy and failure. I plan to change that."

When the topic turned to what the GOP candidates would do to reform healthcare, Bachmann was clear. "Obamacare is so flat out unpopular that even the Obama administration chose to reject part of Obamacare last Friday. And when they tried to throw out the 'Class Act,' which is the long-term care function, Secretary Sebelius reported that the government can't even afford that part and has to throw it out," said Bachmann. "When even the Obama administration wants to repeal this bill, I think we are going to win this thing. We're gonna repeal it! And I will!"

Bachmann, a consistent leader on border protection, confirmed her position on illegal immigration during a heated discussion of the issue at the debate. "I was just in Arizona this last weekend and the state is very concerned because when someone comes here illegally across the borders specifically for the purpose of utilizing American resources to have a baby here and all the welfare benefits that attach to that baby. This is an issue that we can deal with legislatively and there are a lot of Americans that would like us to deal with the issue of anchor-babies legislatively."

Offering one of her solutions to stop illegal immigration, Bachmann said, "I was the very first candidate to sign a pledge that says that by a certain date, I will build a double-walled fence with an area of security neutrality in between. I will build it on the entire border."

Bachmann flexed her foreign policy muscle by affirming the need to support our nation's greatest ally – Israel. "The biggest problem with this administration and foreign policy is that President Obama is the first president since Israel declared her sovereignty that put daylight between the United States and Israel. That heavily contributed to the current hostilities that we see in the Middle East region." Bachmann said.

She also added that under a Bachmann administration, the United States would never negotiate with terrorists by asserting, "For any candidate to say that they would release the prisoners at Guantanamo in exchange for a hostage would be absolutely contrary to the historical nature of the United States and what we do in our policy. That's naïve – we cannot do that. The United States has done well because we have an absolute policy. We don't negotiate."

Wrapping up a strong debate performance, Bachmann closed by saying, "We need to listen to Ronald Reagan who said -- 'We don't need pale pastels, we need bold colors. I'm the most different candidate from Barack Obama than anyone on this stage. We can't settle in this race."
