Bachmann Addresses New Hampshire Legislature on Economic Growth
Bachmann: " My solutions are simple. Cut government spending to balance the budget, legalize America’s God given natural resources, stop taxing investment and productivity.”
Concord, NH - Republican presidential candidate Michele Bachmann addressed the New Hampshire House of Representatives at the State House in Concord today. Bachmann focused on solutions that foster economic growth and job creation including cutting government spending, balancing the budget, reducing taxes on job creators and their employees, and inspiring private-sector innovation.
The following is the full text of the address:
“Speaker O’Brien, Members of the legislature, thank you for the invitation to address you today before you begin the important work of the great state of New Hampshire. As a former state senator I thank you for standing up for the people of your districts.
“The United States of America, history’s most successful political experiment, has proved that a nation conceived in liberty and dedicated to the proposition of equality will prove stronger and more enduring than any nation ordered to favor the few at the expense of the many.
“And central to our ideals is property rights. By property, I don’t just mean land ownership, but also the right to determine how to make a living, and the right to be free from taxation without representation.
“It is the right and opportunity to work, and the right to keep the fruits of your labor – that it is your money and not the government’s to spend or waste. Without private property rights there can be no liberty, and without liberty there can be no America.
“Fourteen million of out of work Americans, most of whom were laid off through no fault of their own, have lost their economic liberty. And America’s job creators and small business owners like myself, have lost our economic liberty under the weight of $1.8 trillion annually in compliance costs with government regulations.
“Today, unemployment is 9.1 percent. And most economists warn that it will remain stubbornly high for at least the next year under the same failed economic policies. Since the President’s failed trillion dollar stimulus, we have lost over 2.5 million jobs while adding 416,000 government jobs. One in six Americans is now on food stamps. Housing values have fallen 19 percent from 2008 to the first quarter of this year. GDP growth was an anemic .4 percent in the first quarter and at 1.3 percent in the last and the dollar has lost 10 percent of its value.
“Those are grim statistics. Our patience with the President’s government directed, temporary gimmicks and excuses has run out because we see our liberty is in real decline.
“Yesterday, I introduced my solutions, ‘American Jobs, Right Now,’ to turn our economy around, promote growth and create millions of jobs. My solutions are simple. Cut government spending to balance the budget, legalize America’s God given natural resources, stop taxing investment and productivity. In other words, do what growing economies do.
“Today, I will return to Washington to vote for one of the components of that plan, finalizing free trade agreements that the President could have passed, but delayed far too long, costing our fellow citizens thousands of jobs.
“My ‘American Jobs, Right Now’ solutions call for repatriating over 1.2 trillion American dollars from overseas, massively cutting federal spending by eliminating government agencies and the size of government; repealing Obamacare in its totality – the government takeover of our healthcare system; cutting taxes on investment and productivity, including corporate taxes; repealing the Job and Housing Destruction Act – better known as Dodd-Frank in its totality; repealing $1.8 trillion in annual job killing regulations; increasing exports by finalizing free trade agreements; spurring new investment in America; inspiring innovation; and legalizing American energy production, including decreased regulations on developing new energy supplies from our abundant domestic energy resources; and finally enforce America’s immigration laws – ending taxpayer benefits and magnets to illegal aliens and their children.
“Many of these solutions can and should be implemented by President Obama today! Millions of out of work Americans can’t afford to wait for the election. And we should rely on the free market to implement these solutions because when they are implemented by the government, it occurs at the expense of our rights and the increase of dependency on government by our citizens.
“This body can have a significant impact on the people of New Hampshire’s ability to fully restore their economic liberty by making New Hampshire a right to work state. Right to work states have created more jobs than those that are not and right to work states have experienced more economic growth than states that are not right to work.
“’Property,’ our second president John Adams wrote, ‘is surely a right of mankind as real as liberty.’ Yet today property rights come under attack from regulations that affect every conceivable aspect of property ownership and job creation.
“The stakes of this election have real consequences for the citizens of New Hampshire and all of America. Will we forge the next link in the chain of liberty and create a better life, the pursuit of happiness, for each one of us? Or will we fail the next generation by breaking the liberty chain? Will we accept the continued restrictions on our rights, including the job-killing takeover of our healthcare system known as Obamacare? Or will we make our voices heard in Washington and in every State House that we want our country back and that we want our liberty restored?
“Adams recognized that at critical times in history, a generation is required to set aside its preferred pursuits and embrace the sacrifices needed to secure the blessings of liberty for the next generation.
“We saw it happen with Adams’ own generation, the founders who put everything on the line and everything they owned to form a new kind of government, one founded on the consent of the people, and one dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal, and endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights. This is our nation’s creed. That is the creed of the Tea Party, that marvelous grassroots movement that has renewed the promise of our Constitutional heritage.
“We can restore economic liberty, but to do so we must constrain the reach of government and protect the rights our founders gave their last full measure of devotion to ensure. May each one of us as true servants of the people and most assuredly of our blessed constitution, go, and do likewise.”
“God bless you and God bless the United States of America.”
