Team Bachmann Releases 99 Videos From 99 County Tour

Urbandale, Iowa - In completing her historical barnstorming tour, Iowa native and Republican presidential candidate Michele Bachmann today released 99 videos for each of Iowa's 99 counties, to campaign county chairmen and supporters, energizing voters leading up to the all-important Iowa caucuses on Jan. 3.

In just over ten days, Bachmann traveled more than 6,200 miles throughout Iowa and met with thousands of voters, securing their caucus support. Along the way, Team Bachmann recorded the videos, urging Iowans to take a stand and rally on Tuesday for the true consistent and constitutional conservative – Michele Bachmann. Each hit includes a "How to Caucus" to prep supporters for the important job tasked to them this coming Tuesday.

"Meeting with voters all across the great state of Iowa and hearing the concerns they have with the direction our country is heading, confirmed to me the need for a strong conservative candidate who can stand toe-to-toe with Obama," said Bachmann. "I am that candidate and with the support of Iowa, I can beat Obama."

Like many Iowans, we've kicked the tires on the 2012 Republican presidential fleet of candidates, looking for the one who offers the best shot at substantively challenging President Barack Obama. After seeing all the candidates and interviewing five of them this season, the Times Editorial Board supports the one Iowans have kicked around the longest: Mitt Romney.

Before Romney even launched his 2012 campaign, he'd spent more time in Iowa than any of the current or former GOP candidates.

During those visits, we've found an articulate, polished chief executive with a range of business and governing experience that far exceeds his rivals. More than any other caucus contender, Romney acts as if his sights are set on the presidency, not just a nomination.

We do not want to see the president face a token challenge in 2012.

Romney presents a far more serious challenge than any other caucus contender.

Romney stands not as a last resort, but as a solid, first preference.

Like Presidents Ronald Reagan, George H. W. Bush and Sen. John McCain, Romney makes his second presidential bid as a much stronger candidate. We wished we'd have seen him more often this go-round. But his choice of a national - not just Iowa - strategy affirms our belief that his sights are set on the presidency, not just a nomination.

Largest-yet coalition rollout representing 13 counties follows recent veterans-themed rally

ANKENY, Iowa – The Ron Paul 2012 Presidential campaign announced today the names of 25 Iowans joining the active “Veterans for Ron Paul” nationwide coalition.
 
The announcement occurs on the heels of a similar recent 20-veteran announcement, a ‘Salute to Veterans’ rally in Des Moines, and a Des Moines Register op-ed by Ron Paul addressing veterans issues, all in the last week.
 
Surpassing the recent record-setting rollout for this coalition, the additional members reside in Butler, Cass, Cedar, Cerro Gordo, Jackson, Jasper, Linn, Pocahontas, Polk, Scott, Warren, Washington, and Woodbury counties, all Iowa.
 
Support for the Ron Paul 2012 campaign in the Hawkeye state continues to benefit from the backing of veterans such as the ones speaking out today.  Reasons for Dr. Paul’s substantial support from voters who are veterans include his dedication to veterans while in Congress, highlighted in an ad here, and the fact that he is himself a former Air Force flight surgeon.

Iowa Democratic Party 2012 Caucus Procedures

On Tuesday, January 3rd, 2012, the Iowa Democratic Party will hold its First in the Nation Precinct Caucuses across the state. In addition to conducting the standard caucus business of electing delegates and precinct committee persons, and discussion on platform resolutions, Democrats will use the 2012 Democratic Caucuses as a tool to organize towards Democratic victories at all levels in 2012.

On caucus night, Democrats will hear directly from their Democratic candidates, including a live address from President Obama. Additionally, they’ll learn how to get involved in their community and build support for our candidates as we approach the general election.

This year the IDP has 1774 precincts and 246 caucus locations.

Delegate Selection Process Iowa Democrats who wish to become a delegate to the county, district, state, or national convention must begin that process on caucus night by running in their precinct. Each precinct is apportioned delegates based on the size of their county’s convention and past Democratic performance.

Once elected on caucus night, a delegate must attend their county convention and run as a delegate to the district and state convention. From there, they would be elected as a delegate to the national convention in Charlotte, NC.

There will be a total of 1200 delegates elected to the state convention, which will take place on June 16th, 2012 in Des Moines.

Resolution Process

Caucus goers may submit a resolution in their precinct on caucus night. Adopted
resolutions will be given to the county platform committee who will determine which
resolutions are presented at the county convention.

Preference Groups

Democrats will only form preference groups if at least 15 percent of the attendees wish to do so. If the caucus agrees to form preference groups, delegates are proportionally awarded to any group that meets the viability threshold (15 percent in most precincts).

If a group is not viable when preference groups are initially formed, those individuals may realign and support a viable candidate. Delegates are then assigned.

St. Cloud – The Republican Party of Minnesota issued the following statement congratulating newly elected State Party Chairman, Pat Shortridge. Shortridge was elected at today’s State Central Committee meeting for the Republican Party of Minnesota with 224 votes.

“I am thankful to the delegates of the Republican Party of Minnesota State Central Committee for electing me to serve as Chairman of the State Party. I look forward to working with Deputy Chair Kelly Fenton, the staff, and activists to reorganize and reenergize our Party for the upcoming 2012 elections. Kelly has taken key steps during this past month to get our party back on track and we will continue to take crucial steps on the path to moving forward. We are truly a grassroots Party and together we can maintain our majorities in the Minnesota State House and Senate, unseat Amy Klobuchar, maintain our four Republican seats in Congress and send another Republican Congressman to Washington,” said newly elected Chairman Shortridge.
