Arizona Republican Party Statement on GOP Presidential Debate in Arizona

Phoenix, AZ - Arizona Republican Party Chairman Tom Morrissey released the following statement today regarding Arizona's role in a Republican Primary Presidential debate in Arizona:

"The Arizona Republican Party shares and supports Governor Jan Brewer’s goal to ensure that Arizona voters are heard loud and clear during the presidential nomination process. So, I was pleased to learn that the Republican National Committee has preliminarily granted Arizona an RNC-sanctioned debate among GOP candidates, preferably in December 2011.

The Arizona Republican Party will shortly submit to the RNC an official application for this debate and will be coordinating with the Governor regarding other arrangements for this exciting opportunity. Morrissey continued, "I am grateful to Governor Brewer for her leadership in this process. All Arizonans can look forward to this debate, which will give our voters an up-close look at the candidates and make certain that issues critical to Arizona and the Southwest are addressed in a serious and substantive manner.”

The FAMiLY LEADER TO PRESENT THANKSGIVING FAMILY FORUM ON SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 19, 2011

Pleasant Hill, IA – The FAMiLY LEADER, in conjunction with CitizenLink (A Focus on the Family Affiliate) and the National Organization for Marriage, will host the Thanksgiving Family Forum – A Family Discussion With the Republican Candidates on Saturday, November 19th.  The forum will take place in Des Moines, Iowa at First Federated Church.   

The timing of this forum, less than three months before the Iowa caucuses, is critical both to Iowans who are vetting the candidates and the candidates who are making their case for the Republican nomination.  

Tom Minnery, Executive Director of CitizenLink, says, “We are privileged to partner with The FAMiLY LEADER to offer this important forum to advance the discussion in this extremely relevant election cycle.  It is more important today than it has ever been to elect a president who fairly represents the family values that Americans hold dear.”

The FAMiLY LEADER has invited Michele Bachmann, Herman Cain, Newt Gingrich, Ron Paul, Rick Perry, Mitt Romney, and Rick Santorum.  Bachmann, Cain, Paul, and Santorum are confirmed for the event.  Invitations were sent to those candidates who finished in the top five at The Iowa Straw Poll or who polled 5% or above in the  Real Clear Politics poll as of August 28th. 

The purpose of the Thanksgiving Family Forum is to allow Iowans an opportunity to further vet the candidates in a setting friendly to issues affecting the family.  The FAMiLY LEADER expects 2,500+ attendees who represent a large influential segment of Iowa caucus-goers.    The FAMiLY LEADER also anticipates all 99 counties of Iowa to be represented by key organizational and faith leaders.

"With today's jobs report, the worst in a year, one has to wonder what it will take to make the President and Congress admit that they are doing all the wrong things.  Government does not create jobs, it kills jobs.  Yet, the White House says the answer is to pass a highway bill so they can 'stimulate' construction jobs.  Washington has stimulated us to death, and it has to stop.  Provide certainty for employers, stop the insane spending, and reform the tax code.  Do those things, and the private sector will do the job creation.  We have let the myth of government jobs programs go too far, and America is suffering as a result.  We don't need more prime time speeches -- we need government to just get out of the way."

As we mark Labor Day, this bad news is especially poignant, but it’s also not surprising.

Stagnant economic growth is the inevitable result of President Obama’s commitment to class warfare and bureaucratic socialism.

The president routinely demonizes successful Americans, arguing they need to be punished with higher taxes. Is it any wonder that entrepreneurs are hesitant to invest, create new wealth and jobs?

This administration has issued one job killing regulation after another. Laws like Obamacare and Dodd-Frank are so complex and confusing that businesses can’t predict their costs for the coming years. With so much uncertainty, is it any wonder businesses aren’t hiring?

There is a better way – a proven way.

As a junior congressman, I worked with Jack Kemp and Ronald Reagan to develop and then pass the Kemp-Roth tax cuts. And rather than casting successful Americans as the enemy of working Americans, Ronald Reagan praised the American entrepreneur as the cornerstone of our country’s success. The result was an unprecedented economic boom that created 25 million new jobs.
