Ron Paul Supporters Raise $1 Million Dollars in 24 Hours
One Day Fundraising Push Initiated by Grassroots

ANKENY, IA –On Sunday, the Ron Paul 2012 Campaign raised more than one million dollars in a 24 hour fundraising push initiated by its grassroots supporters. The one million dollar haul comes on the heels of a similar one day fundraising push one month prior, which also netted over a million dollars. Featuring a live fundraising counter and updated ticker, donations were displayed in real time on the website, www.RonPaul2012.com.
 
“To have a million dollars come in, in a single day provides a tremendous boost to the projects we are initiating," said Iowa Campaign Chairman Drew Ivers. “It is clear from his fundraising success that Ron Paul is a strong contender in the 2012 Republican primary for President.”
 
Ron Paul will visit Iowa again on Monday, June 13 at a campaign stop in Dubuque. The event will take place at the StoneCliff Winery's Riverfront Alliant Amphitheater, starting at 11:30am. The address is 600 Star Brewery Drive. Dubuque, IA 52001. The event is open to the public and Ron Paul will be available for questions.

Tim Pawlenty Leads With 33% In Minnesota PPP Poll, Michele Bachmann 2nd At 14%

Pawlenty Leads With 33% In Minnesota PPP Poll

Republican voters in Minnesota are warming up to Tim Pawlenty's Presidential bid and give him far more support than they do Michele Bachmann. Pawlenty leads the way in the state with 33% to 14% for Bachmann, 11% for Sarah Palin and Mitt Romney, 10% for Herman Cain, 9% for Ron Paul, 4% for Newt Gingrich, and 2% for Jon Huntsman.

These numbers represent an increase in support for Pawlenty. When we polled the Republican field in December only 24% of Minnesota voters said he'd be their first choice. He's doing better now because he has strong support across the ideological spectrum of GOP voters in the state. With moderates he leads with 33% to Bachmann's 12%. He's strongest with 'somewhat conservative' voters who give him 36% to Romney's 14% and Bachmann's 11%. And even with the 'very conservative' voters that you would expect to be Bachmann's base he leads with 28% to her 18% with Cain finishing 3rd at 15%.

Bachmann's unimpressive showing isn't an indication that Minnesota Republicans don't like her- she is quite popular with a 68/23 favorability spread. But there's a disconnect between their liking her and their thinking she should be President, just as we tend to see for Palin throughout the country. Polling numbers we released earlier this week showed GOP voters thought it would be more appropriate for Bachmann to run for the Senate next year than the White House.

Some more notes:

-With 'very conservative' voters Pawlenty's net favorability (+65 at 78/13) is 62 points better than Romney's which is just +3 at 45/42. Voters on the far right everywhere have their reservations about Romney and it bodes well for Pawlenty that he's at least popular with those folks in his own home state. We'll see if he can take that appeal national as he becomes better known.

-We've released 5 Republican primary polls in the last week and this marks the 4th where we have found negative favorability numbers for Gingrich. His -6 spread at 35/41 represents a 39 point decline from our December poll when it was +33 at 55/22. And he now has less than half as much support as Ron Paul in the state. His goose looks like it's pretty much cooked.

Republican presidential candidate Tim Pawlenty will deliver a policy address at the University of Chicago Harris School of Public Policy on Tuesday, June 7.  The former governor of Minnesota, who announced his candidacy for the Republican nomination at the end of May, will explain his views on the nation’s economy, including ways to increase American innovation and investment.

“We can balance the budget, overhaul our broken tax code, and create millions of jobs, but first we have to be honest about the challenges facing our nation," Governor Pawlenty said.

In addition to Pawlenty’s visit, the University of Chicago is extending invitations to all declared presidential candidates to deliver similar policy-focused speeches at Chicago Harris throughout the campaign season. The University of Chicago does not endorse any political candidate or party.

June 3, 2011, Santa Fe, NM - Republican presidential candidate and former New Mexico Governor Gary Johnson released the following statement today in reaction to not being invited to participate in the June 13 New Hampshire Republican presidential primary debate:

“I respect the right of CNN and the other sponsors of the June 13 New Hampshire Republican presidential primary debate to apply their own criteria and invite who they choose.  It is, however, unfortunate that a significant segment of the Republican Party, and more importantly, millions of independent voters who might be Republican voters, will not have a voice on the stage in Manchester.

What will be missing is the voice of those who hold an undiluted view of individual liberty – those who believe that individual rights extend to women who face choices about abortion,  Americans who happen to be gay, and those who don’t place other asterisks on freedom.

Likewise, there will be no voice for the growing number of Americans who see the hypocrisy and failure of drug laws that condone alcohol at White House Dinners while incarcerating millions of Americans, including our kids, who choose to smoke pot.

I wish the participants in the debate well.  And I sympathize with the millions of Americans whose beliefs will not be on display in Manchester on June 13.
