ALGOP Dinner Sold Out, Conservatives ‘Fired Up’

Birmingham, AL – Friday, February 5th, the Alabama Republican Party will host its 2010 Winter Dinner at the Renaissance Hotel in Montgomery.  The event, featuring Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty, officially sold out last Friday and the Party is currently taking reservations for the waiting list.

Rep. Mike Hubbard (R-Auburn), Chairman of the Alabama Republican Party cites energy among conservatives as one of the reasons for the early sell out.

“There is no doubt that conservatives are fired up about sending a message to Democrats in November,” Hubbard said. “Folks are fed up with wasteful spending and corruption by the Democrat leadership, and Alabamians are rallying around our Party to ensure that their message is delivered.”

“We look forward to welcoming Governor Pawlenty to Alabama, and are pleased that he will be met with a packed house,” Hubbard added.

Statement by Governor Tim Pawlenty on President Barack Obama’s Address

“While I disagree with his proposed direction, I agree with President Obama that education, health care and the deficit are critical challenges for our country. Our nation’s debt is a growing crisis that puts the country’s security at risk. Freezing some spending won’t solve the crisis – we need to actually cut spending. If we set priorities, make tough choices and reject tax hikes, we can create jobs without continuing to run up irresponsible debt.

“In the long run, our schools simply must do a better job of educating children if America is going to remain competitive. That’s why I’ve pushed to hold teachers accountable with a groundbreaking performance-pay system in Minnesota – reforms that I hope the President will push nationwide.

“Minnesota has also led the way on health care, passing reforms to move the system towards paying for and achieving better health care outcomes. Democrats should listen to voters, stop pushing a government-takeover of health care, and join with Republicans to pass reforms that will cut health care costs.”

The Southern Republican Leadership Conference is the most prominent Republican event outside of a Republican National Convention. Governor Tim Pawlenty’s Freedom First PAC Launches New Website

ST. PAUL, Minnesota – Governor Tim Pawlenty’s Freedom First PAC launches its new website today, with a special focus on promoting a balanced-budget amendment and highlighting the Governor’s record. The site’s initial campaign is to support Scott Brown, who is running for U.S. Senate in the Massachusetts special election on January 19.

“Electing Scott Brown to the U.S. Senate will promote freedom and help stop the government take-over of health care, which is why we’re making his candidacy a top priority,” Governor Pawlenty said. “To protect freedom in the long run, we also need a mechanism in place to enforce balanced budgets, because regardless of which party is in power, they have not done a good job of getting budgets to balance over time. That’s why I’m calling for a Constitutional amendment to require a balanced budget, with exceptions for war, natural disasters, and other emergencies.”

The new site will serve as an online hub for promoting policy consistent with Freedom First PAC's mission and for grassroots activity in support of featured candidates. The site’s other features include:

• Supporters can sign a petition urging Congress to pass a balanced budget amendment.
• An interactive Google map displaying what freedom means to people around the country.
• Integrated Facebook section shows Pawlenty’s online supporters.
• People can nominate candidates for the Freedom First PAC to support.
• A new blog with posts by Freedom First PAC staff and advisors.

The Freedom First PAC worked with Terra Eclipse to build the site.  The California-based firm has a successful track record in the online political space, including Ron Paul’s 2008 web presence.
