DES MOINES – Iowa Democratic Party Chair, Dr. Andy McGuire, issued the following statement on Governor Mike Pence as Donald Trump’s Vice Presidential nominee:

"Donald Trump’s selection of Governor Mike Pence as his running mate merely reinforces his campaign message of division, discrimination and hate. Pence has a long career of embracing discriminatory policies and pushing forward legislation that only benefits corporations and the 1 percent. Anyone who stands side by side with Donald Trump is not interested in progress or improving the lives of the working class.”

“As Governor of Indiana, Pence has a record of spearheading discriminatory policies that targeted LGBT communities. He is a strong advocate against a woman’s right to choose and signed a 2016 abortion law with some of the most outrageous restrictions in the country. Like Trump, he is no friend of minorities and echoes Trump’s overall message of hate, division and exclusion. As a pioneer of the Tea Party movement, Pence is a symbol of extremism and does not reflect the overall voice of America.”

“America’s working class would definitely suffer under a Trump/Pence administration as both champion policies that put corporations and millionaires first. Pence agrees with Trump that wages are already too high, and he voted against raising the minimum wage in 2007 as a member of Congress. While Trump outsourced jobs and bankrupted his corporations, Pence cut corporate taxes and enacted economic policies that stalled Indiana incomes and resulted in skilled workers earning lower wages. Iowans deserve better. Our country deserves better. And our hardworking Americans deserve a President who will unite our country, make it stronger and create an economy that works for everyone. It is impossible to reach these goals under a Trump/Pence administration.”

Donald J. Trump Announces Creation of Israel Advisory Committee

DONALD J. TRUMP ANNOUNCES CREATION OF ISRAEL ADVISORY COMMITTEE

Donald J. Trump announced the formation of the Israel Advisory Committee to analyze U.S. policy toward the State of Israel, enhance the unbreakable bond between the countries, ensure Israel’s military superiority within the region and research alternative solutions to the Israeli/Palestinian discord. The Committee will make recommendations to Mr. Trump.

The co-chairmen of the Israel Advisory Committee are Jason Greenblatt, Esq., an Executive Vice President and Chief Legal Officer of The Trump Organization and David M. Friedman, Esq., a senior partner at Kasowitz, Benson, Torres & Friedman LLP.

Mr. Trump stated, “The conflict between Israelis and Palestinians runs deep. Every president in modern history has tried and failed to resolve this conflict, while both sides continue to suffer. We mustn’t fear taking new, constructive and mutually beneficial steps to advance the cause of peace in the region, recognizing, at all times, the moral and strategic alliance, as well as the unbreakable bond, between the United States and Israel. That’s why I’ve asked Jason Greenblatt and David Friedman to lead my Israel Advisory Committee, to help me take a fresh look at the current conflict and what we can do to help reduce tensions. Events in the region directly affect our national security, and as President I’ll have no greater responsibility than protecting the American people from harm.”

Dr. Richard H. Roberts, M.D., Ph.D. has been appointed as the Vice Chair of the Israel Advisory Committee.
