Martin O’Malley to Attend First-Ever Unite Iowa Immigration Forum in Storm Lake & Hold College Events on Third Leg of Rebuilding the American Dream Tour
 
This Saturday, August 29th, Governor Martin O’Malley will return to the Hawkeye State for the first ever #UniteIowa immigration forum in Storm Lake. O’Malley is going to infamously anti-immigrant Congressman Steve King's district on Saturday to stand up for what's right and not cede the immigration debate to Donald Trump.
 
Governor O’Malley is one of only two candidates who will attend the first-ever nonpartisan immigration forum in Iowa. O’Malley is also the only candidate who has put forward a comprehensive plan for immigration reform. Heralded as the boldest and most progressive plan of any candidate in the race, he led on this issue in Iowa in July at an immigration roundtable in Des Moines.
 
The two-day trip will also include stops at college campuses who have recently returned to school to discuss his bold goal to cut youth unemployment in half as part of his 15 Goals to Rebuild the American Dream.

Other new hires include Nancy Mace who will serve as State Coalitions Director in South Carolina, and James Epley who will serve as Upstate Regional Director also in South Carolina.

Nancy brings fifteen years of experience both in business and campaigns such as those of Congressman (now Senator) Tim Scott, Congressman Mick Mulvaney, Congressman Tom Rice and several other elected officials. Nancy was the first female graduate of The Citadel, the military college of South Carolina. James comes to the campaign after serving as South Carolina Low Country Regional Director for Newt Gingrich in 2012 and brings with him twenty five years of experience in real estate development. A recent Monmouth University poll shows Mr. Trump with 30% in South Carolina.

Mr. Trump also announced two additional staffers in the Granite State where he continues to lead the GOP Republican Primary field by a sizable margin, according to the latest Public Policy Poll showing him with 35%. Lisa Maciejowski Gambuzza has joined the campaign as office manager for the Manchester based operation and Jonathan W. Dimock of Newfields, New Hampshire will serve as a New Hampshire Field Representative.

See below for an op-ed that will run in tomorrow's Cedar Rapids Gazette, from former Governor Tom Vilsack, endorsing Hillary Clinton. Vilsack will join Hillary Clinton at tomorrow's events where she will outline policy ideas to strengthen the agricultural economy and rural communities.
 
On Feb. 1, 2016 I intend to proudly caucus for Hillary Clinton — plain and simple. Hillary Clinton is not new to the fight for middle class families. Throughout her public life she has consistently fought to expand and strengthen the middle class. I have no doubt she will continue that fight as president.
 
Expanding and strengthening the middle class starts with quality jobs. Too often the discussion of good jobs fails to include the unique challenges faced by rural Americans. Hillary Clinton understands that some of the deepest and most pronounced poverty exists in rural areas of the country. Her strong support for the Renewable Fuel Standard and bio-based manufacturing as important parts of a revitalized rural economy makes clear she will work hard to promote meaningful economic opportunity throughout the country.
 
Hillary knows the economy of the future depends on a well-educated and trained workforce, and she understands the cost of education — from preschool to college and beyond — increasingly strains family budgets with unprecedented debt. That’s why she’s laid out a specific, workable plan to address these strains and make a good education available to all our children.
 
However, a secure footing requires more than a good paying job and access to education. It means a foundation that cannot be undone by injury or illness. Hillary will preserve those protections gained under the Affordable Care Act instead of putting insurance companies in the driver’s seat, and will look for ways to expand access to affordable health insurance coverage for all Americans and continue to bend the cost curve of health care.
 
Every Iowan knows good ideas aren’t enough. We recognize the most successful presidents are those who can both lead and govern, while navigating the toughest job on earth.
 
In other words: Leadership inspires. Governance delivers.
 
As President, Hillary Clinton will both inspire and deliver results. I know because I have worked with her and called her a friend for nearly two decades.
 
She leads by example. Her courage in China as First Lady when she declared “women’s rights are human rights” continues to inspire people all over the world to demand equality and freedom. As a twice-elected Senator, she worked with farmers to improve their prosperity in rural New York. And as Secretary of State, she helped to establish a program that delivers food assistance to over 12.5 million hungry children in some of the poorest countries in the world. This just scratches the surface of her career of inspiring and delivering for people around the country and across the globe.
 
On a personal note, Hillary Clinton is one of the most loyal people I know and that is rare in politics. My relationship with Hillary goes back a long way. Hillary and Tom Bell, my brother-in-law, became friends in 1972 when they worked together as staff members to the Congressional Watergate Hearings — long before she was a household name. When I was elected governor of Iowa in 1998, I met with President Bill Clinton in the Oval Office. In that private meeting, he gave me some very good advice. He encouraged me to stay true and loyal to the ideas I ran on and to the people who had faith in me to govern well. Hillary Clinton is one of those people.
 
My election that year was a surprise to many — but not Hillary. Despite the fact that I was way behind in the polls, she encouraged people she knew from all over the country to pitch in when I needed help, especially in the last weeks of the campaign. Without her support I may not have won.
 
Why did she do it? Loyalty.
 
Many years before I met her and before she was known to Iowans, my brother-in-law told me how much he’d liked and respected Hillary Clinton when they worked together.
 
Over the past 15 years, I’ve come to like and respect her, too.
 
That is why I support her.
 
Hillary Clinton has the right policies to strengthen and expand the middle class, is battle tested, and has the experience and relationships to lead and govern well. For all of those reasons as well as our friendship, I will caucus for Hillary Clinton on February 1, 2016.

Marco Rubio Returns to South Carolina to Discuss China Policy in Charleston

This Friday, August 28, Marco Rubio will discuss his ideas for U.S. policy toward China at a special event at the Charleston Metro Chamber's World Trade Center in South Carolina. Marco outlined his foreign policy doctrine at the Council on Foreign Relations in New York in May and in an essay in the current issue of Foreign Affairs. Earlier this month, he described how he would deal with Iran and Cuba as President. At Friday's event, he will discuss in detail how the Rubio Administration will handle China.

Marco was the ranking member on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee's Subcommittee on East Asian and Pacific Affairs in the last Congress. Last year, he visited U.S. allies in East Asia to highlight the importance of our relationships in the region for America's prosperity and security in the twenty-first century, and used his position on the subcommittee to advocate for more American leadership in Asia. In this Congress, as Cochairman of the Congressional-Executive Commission on China, Marco has led efforts to press China to improve the human rights of its people and respect for fundamental freedoms.

In addition to Friday's policy event in Charleston, Marco will do a meet and greet with Republicans in Fort Mill and a town hall at the University of South Carolina on Thursday. Marco will also attend a meet and greet breakfast with the Horry County Republican Party on Friday morning.
