Bernie Sanders Heading to Illinois, Iowa, Wisconsin and Michigan on February 22-25, 2018
BURLINGTON, Vt. – U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders will attend events in Illinois, Iowa, Wisconsin and Michigan next week to rally the midwest in support of strong progressive candidates and against Trump's rightwing agenda. Sanders has vigorously opposed Trump's efforts to throw millions of Americans off of health care and give huge tax breaks to billionaires while budgeting massive cuts to Medicaid, Medicare, education and nutrition.
“First, Trump and his Republican colleagues wanted to throw up to 32 million Americans off of their health care. Then, Trump's tax plan provided the Koch brothers and other billionaires massive tax breaks while driving up the deficit by $1.5 trillion," said Senator Bernie Sanders. “Now, they want to pay for those tax breaks to the rich by slashing Medicare, Medicaid and many other programs desperately needed by working families. We must stand together across this country to not only fight back against Trump's disastrous policies, but to also fight for a progressive agenda that works for all Americans, not just wealthy campaign contributors.”
Sanders will kick off the swing in Chicago on Thursday with a rally in support of Cook County commissioner Chuy Garcia's run for Illinois' 4th Congressional District. He will then head to Des Moines, Iowa, on Friday for a rally with Pete D'Alessandro, former campaign aide and candidate for Iowa's 3rd District race. Sanders will end the day in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where he will headline a "Not One Penny" rally alongside community leaders and grassroots activists against Republican tax breaks for billionaires and Trump's reactionary budget. On Saturday, Sanders heads to Racine, Wisconsin, for a rally with Democrat Randy Bryce, who is running in Wisconsin's 1st Congressional District, home to House Speaker Paul Ryan. Sanders will make his final stops in Green Bay on Saturday night and Lansing, Michigan, on Sunday afternoon to rejoin the "Not One Penny" tour.
