Secretary Castro Returns to Las Vegas and Western Nevada for First in the West Event, Anaconda Mine Roundtable
Castro will join Black Community Summit, talk with tribal leaders, join roundtable with Douglas County Democrats
SAN ANTONIO, TX (November 15, 2019) – Presidential candidate, former Obama Secretary of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and Mayor of San Antonio, Texas, Julián Castro will return to Nevada on Sunday and Monday to speak at the Nevada State Democratic Party’s "First in the West" event, attend the Black Community Summit, participate in a town hall with the Douglas County Democrats, talk to tribal leaders in Yerington, and see the effects of the Anaconda Copper Mine. This is Secretary Castro’s 12th trip to Nevada since announcing his candidacy in January.
On Sunday, he will speak at the First in the West event, an event hosted by the Nevada Democrats prior to the February 22 Nevada caucuses.
On Monday morning, Secretary Castro will join Congressman Steven Horsford and other leaders at the Black Community Summit in Las Vegas. Later on Monday, he will join tribal leaders and environmentalists to see first-hand the effects from the Anaconda Copper Mine and learn more about the needs of the Yerington community. During his last trip to Nevada on October 26, Secretary Castro continued to lead the Democratic field in uplifting the needs of traditionally marginalized communities by discussing the mine and his plan to require tribal consent for major infrastructure projects.
After touring an area affected by the mine, he will participate in a town hall with Douglas County Democrats, continuing to make Nevada’s rural communities a top priority. In July, Secretary Castro became the first candidate to visit Elko this election cycle, and the first known candidate to ever visit West Wendover.
