Tom Steyer 2020 Campaign Reaches Agreement With Staff Union Subject To Ratification
(San Francisco, CA, February 21, 2020) –– Today, the Tom Steyer 2020 campaign announced that it has reached a tentative agreement with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 2325, the exclusive bargaining representative for its campaign staff, subject to staff ratification. Steyer Campaign Manager Heather Hargreaves said:
“We are delighted to have reached an agreement with IBEW Local 2325 that will benefit our staff. Tom’s strongest and most steadfast partner has always been organized labor. Tom has a history of working closely with unions to affect meaningful change, which includes forming the ‘For Our Future’ partnership with national labor groups to mobilize voters in key states in 2016. Tom knows that unionization is a living, breathing example of democracy at work, and a critical counterweight to the corporate power that has become entrenched in government at all levels. He will continue to fight for union workers as president, including by protecting their right to keep their hard-won benefits such as health care plans.”
Tom Steyer 2020 is built around Tom’s principles of equity, valuing staff, and ensuring everyone can afford to work on the campaign. The campaign committed from day one to voluntarily recognize the first labor union that demonstrated majority support, and its recognition of IBEW Local 2325 earlier this month made good on that commitment, following a majority of Tom Steyer 2020 field staff agreeing to be represented by IBEW Local 2325. An independent review confirmed that a majority of cards were signed by Steyer campaign field staff.
The agreement negotiated by IBEW Local 2325 will be subject to ratification by campaign staff.
