Nevada Leaders Applaud Joe Biden’s Selection of Kamala Harris as Running Mate
Today, Joe Biden announced Kamala Harris as his running mate. Leaders from across Nevada applauded the selection:
“I am elated by the news Joe Biden selected Kamala Harris as his running mate. Biden made a smart choice. Harris is talented, intelligent, and brings incredible experience to the ticket as well as a valuable Western voice,” said former Senator Harry Reid. “I know Harris is a fighter, I've seen her hold members of this administration accountable as a U.S. Senator, watched her take on the big banks as California's attorney general during the 2008 financial crisis, and witnessed an admirable campaign for the people when she ran for president. The Biden-Harris team is unbeatable.”
“Kamala Harris is fearless, intelligent and compassionate,” said Senator Catherine Cortez Masto. “I've known her since our attorney general days together, and Joe Biden hit a home run with Kamala. I will work tirelessly with Joe and Kamala to win back the White House and flip the Senate.”
“Nevada is a state that knows the power of women's leadership — we have a majority-women congressional delegation and in 2018 we elected the nation's first women-majority legislature,” said Senator Jacky Rosen. “Now, we have the opportunity to make even more history and elect my friend Kamala Harris to be the first woman Vice President in America’s history.”
“Today is a truly historic day for our country. Senator Harris will make an excellent Vice President and the Biden/Harris Administration will honor the legacy of so many who have toiled for justice, equality and representation,” said Congressman Steven Horsford. “We have a lot of work to do to move our country forward, and Joe Biden and Kamala Harris are the team that will bring us together as a nation as we continue to work toward making America more fair and equitable now and for generations to come.”
“For the past four years, we’ve had a president who has trampled on the constitutional rights of so many Americans — women and people of color in particular,” said State Senator Pat Spearman. “When we elect the Biden-Harris ticket, America will be electing our first Black woman as Vice President, someone who will carry the banner of freedom and justice for us and honor the oath to defend this democracy against enemies foreign and domestic. This nation is ready for change. As Vice President of the United States, Kamala Harris will be that change.”
