WHAT THEY ARE SAYING:
New Hampshire Leaders Applaud Joe Biden’s Selection of Kamala Harris as Running Mate
Today, Joe Biden announced Kamala Harris as his running mate. Leaders from across New Hampshire applauded the selection:
“We’ve now broken the concrete ceiling for a Black woman,” said the Hon. Jackie Weatherspoon. “We have pierced through it and we will keep going.”
“I could not be more pleased at the selection of Senator Kamala Harris as Vice President Joe Biden's running-mate,” said State Senator Melanie Levesque. “This is a historic moment for our country, for women, and for people of color. Senator Harris has spent her entire career fighting for working people and I have no doubt she is the best person to continue that fight from the White House."
"Throughout her career, Kamala Harris has been a champion for the people of California, taking on big oil companies to protect the environment, fighting corruption and standing up for women's rights," said Senator Jeanne Shaheen. "I'm confident she'll be an even better Vice President, and I look forward to working together to elect Joe Biden, retake the Senate, and elect Democrats up and down the ticket so that we can make a difference for New Hampshire and for all of America."
"Today is a historic moment for our country and one that is especially important to a state like New Hampshire that has a history of electing strong women to lead. Joe Biden and Kamala Harris will bring people together and deliver real solutions for hardworking families in the Granite State. As a former Attorney General and U.S. Senator, Kamala Harris compliments the proven, steady leadership Joe Biden already brings to the table. With this ticket, we're taking back the White House and restoring the soul of the nation,” said former Governor John Lynch.
“My friend Kamala Harris will be an exceptional Vice President. Determined to understand issues from every angle, she is righteously impatient with those who would thwart justice while also warm and generous to those who differ with her in good faith. I’ve also seen her tremendous capacity to listen to and absorb the concerns of all Americans, and then go to bat to make a difference for them. Both she and Joe Biden understand the challenges facing hard-working Granite Staters and Americans, and they have the experience it will take to get results. America will get a great leader as well as a great friend in Kamala, and I will do everything I can to elect her and Joe this November,” said Senator Maggie Hassan.
“Senator Kamala Harris is a fantastic choice to join Vice President Joe Biden on the ticket,” said Congressman Chris Pappas. “She connected well with the voters of New Hampshire during her campaign and has the judgement, values, and experience to lead. She is a champion for working families, and at a time when the stakes could not be higher for the future of our country I know she will make an excellent Vice President.”
"I am beyond excited that Vice President Joe Biden has selected Senator Kamala Harris to be his running mate," said Congresswoman Annie Kuster. "I had the opportunity to spend time with Kamala Harris in the lead up to the First in the Nation Primary and saw first hand her poise and genuine care for the people she met on the campaign trail. Kamala Harris' experience and leadership will make her a fantastic running mate and incredible Vice President. She's ready to do the hard work and will strengthen our Democratic ticket and our nation. I'm excited to support the Biden-Harris ticket and look forward to helping deliver the Granite State in November."
"Kamala Harris is the running mate choice that I have been waiting for. I am very excited about our ticket and I'm ready to get to work to help elect Joe Biden and Kamala Harris as the next President and Vice President of the United States,” said Bill Shaheen. “Together, they will get Washington working for all families in the Granite State."
"What New Hampshire and this country needs is leadership that will unite this country. I can't think of a better running mate for Joe Biden than Kamala Harris. Together, they will restore empathy and sanity to White House," said former State Representative Terie Norelli.
“Selecting Sen. Kamala Harris illustrates that the Democratic Party is embracing the inclusiveness that this country desperately needs in these divisive times. Furthermore it amplifies the voice of a powerful and loyal voting block: Black Women. It is time to repair a categorically broken system,” said Marvin Venay.
