Comedian and Actor Dave Chappelle Endorses Andrew Yang for President

COMEDIAN AND ACTOR DAVE CHAPPELLE ENDORSES ANDREW YANG FOR PRESIDENT, WILL CAMPAIGN IN SOUTH CAROLINA

Today, comedian and actor Dave Chappelle officially endorsed Andrew Yang for president and announced he will perform two shows in South Carolina on January 29 and 30 to benefit the campaign.

“I’m Yang Gang!” said Chappelle. The two-time Emmy and Grammy award-winning comedian is best known for his sketch comedy series, Chappelle’s Show. In October 2019, Chappelle was awarded the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor, considered the country’s highest honor in comedy.

“Dave is one of the most important voices in our country today and I’m thrilled he has thrown his support behind this campaign,” said Andrew Yang. “He and I share similar concerns about the future and hopes for what it could be. We are also parents who see the world that we are leaving to our kids and believe they deserve better.”

Chappelle’s endorsement follows Andrew Yang’s stunning $16.5 million haul in the final fundraising quarter of 2019, along with endorsements from actors Ken Jeong, Steven Yeun and Donald Glover.

SCREENWRITER AND DIRECTOR JAMES GUNN ENDORSES ANDREW YANG FOR PRESIDENT

NEW YORK — Screenwriter and director James Gunn announced today that he is endorsing Andrew Yang for president. Gunn is best known for films such as Guardians of the Galaxy, Dawn of the Dead, and Super. 

"Andrew Yang is willing to discuss the tough issues our country is facing right now, instead of running from them, and come up with positive, unique, and excitingly revolutionary new ways to tackle the future,” said Gunn. “In a time when so many politicians are out to serve only themselves or whatever small group makes up their base, I believe Andrew can help us make a better America for all Americans. Hope and Ingenuity 2020!" 

Gunn’s endorsement comes as Andrew Yang continues to campaign New Hampshire today, hosting town halls and having conversations with voters to share his vision for rewriting the rules of the 21st century economy so it works for everyone. It also follows the campaign’s $16.5 million fundraising haul in the final quarter of 2019, showing the lasting power and mounting momentum of his candidacy.

Actress Teri Hatcher and actor Dane DeHaan have endorsed Andrew Yang for President. Hatcher is best known for her roles in television series such as Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman and Desperate Housewives. DeHaan is known for his roles in films like The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and Chronicle. 

“As the Iowa Caucus nears, I wanted to weigh in. From the first debate, even given little opportunity to speak, every thought Andrew Yang expressed resonated with me. His logic and knowledge are impressive. He’s a smart guy with a kind heart, talking real statistics on complicated issues in a way no one else does or can... It is time to Make America Think Harder. He wants to solve the problems that got us here in a new forward thinking way. I think he can beat Trump and I believe he will be better for America,” said Hatcher. 

“Andrew Yang is the only candidate for president who is not just progressive, but original and cutting edge. I’m confident he will help Americans transition into a changing future and that is why I am endorsing him for President of the United States,” said DeHaan.

Hatcher and DeHaan’s endorsements come as Andrew Yang continues to campaign in Iowa and New Hampshire, making his case in the early contests of the Democratic primaries. The endorsements also come on the heels of the campaign’s $16.5 million fundraising quarter, the campaign’s highest quarter haul which solidifies its top-tier status. Other recent prominent endorsers include Steven Yeun, Ken Jeong, and Donald Glover.

Andrew Yang Raises $16.5 million in Fourth Quarter of 2019

ANDREW YANG RAISES $16.5 MILLION IN FOURTH QUARTER, OVER $1.3 MILLION IN LAST 24 HOURS BEFORE DEADLINE

NEW YORK — Andrew Yang raised more than $16.5 million during the fourth quarter of 2019, $6.5 million more than the previous $10 million record set in the third quarter. This quarter’s record amount, over 165 percent of the last quarter, also brings the campaign’s total number of donors to 400,000 and more than 1 million contributions. In addition, December 31 was the campaign’s highest single-day haul with more than $1.3 million, topping the previous record of nearly $750,000 set on November 30. 

“At every turn in this race, Andrew Yang continues to exceed expectations whether it’s in terms of grassroots fundraising, making the debates, early state polling, or the ability to draw big crowds,” said Campaign Chief Nick Ryan. “What we have achieved together to date through the humanity first values of this campaign, now sets us up to compete through the early-state primaries, Super Tuesday, and beyond.”  

Following the DNC’s announcement that they are refusing to commission early state qualifying polls in time for the next debate, the campaign saw a massive uptick in contributions, including from over 10,000 first-time donors, propelling the campaign to our largest single-day fundraising record of more than $1.3 million. 

From December 23 until the end of the year, when the campaign set an initial goal of $3 million, the campaign received over 97,000 contributions from all 50 states, the District of Columbia, the three military zip codes, American Samoa, Guam, Puerto Rico, the Northern Marianas, and the Virgin Islands. On deadline day, the goal was raised to $3.5 million, and subsequently $4 million, when donations continued pouring in, far exceeding the initial goal. In the final 48 hours until the deadline, the campaign added more than 10,000 new donors.

The $16.5 million haul will allow the campaign to devote resources toward TV and digital ads, on-the-ground staff, and campaign infrastructure in the early primary states where Andrew Yang is outperforming expectations. 

Andrew Yang's grassroots campaign is funded by small dollar donors, with over 98% of the donations made online being under $200. Over 75% of the total donated is from this group, showing the broad base of Andrew Yang's support. The average donation to the campaign is $30.

DES MOINES, IOWA — On January 3-6, Andrew Yang will embark on a “Freedom Requires Fairness” Tour through Southeast Iowa. In the next 12 years, one out of every three American workers is at risk of losing their job to new technologies. Factories are closing, wages are stagnant, and in too many communities, once thriving Main Streets are littered with empty shop corners. Andrew Yang’s message is simple: the American worker has gotten a raw deal if their humanity matters less to those who write the rules, than corporate profits. Simply put, Americans aren’t truly free without a fair economy that works for everyone.

In more than a dozen counties across the state, Andrew Yang will make his case to Iowans that every American adult should be given a $1,000 a month Freedom Dividend to give workers a leg up in a system that’s stacked against them. In just these counties, a Freedom Dividend would mean more than $3 billion a year that would instantly be injected into the local economy. A Freedom Dividend would also enable Americans to pay their bills, start businesses, relocate for work, stay healthy, spend time with their children, take care of loved ones, educate themselves, and have the opportunity to live the lives they deserve for their years of work and sacrifice.

Today, actor Steven Yeun endorsed Andrew Yang for president. Best known for his starring roles in The Walking Dead and Burning, Yeun and his family immigrated from South Korea to the United States when he was young, where he was raised in Troy, Michigan and went to school at Kalamazoo College.

I saw a real human being who is authentic and genuinely cares deeply about everyday people and our country. NEW YORK — Capitalizing on the momentum of his commanding debate performance last week, Andrew Yang will make a two-day swing through South Carolina to have conversations with voters on the ground about how best to rewrite the rules of the 21st century economy to work for all of us.

Andrew Yang will arrive on Thursday, December 26, and attend a Colleton County Meeting in Walterboro, followed by a small gathering hosted by a local couple—a retired naval officer and a small business owner—in Charleston.

On Friday, December 27, Andrew Yang will host a meet-and-greet with the Democratic Women’s Council in Hartsville. He will then depart for Florence for a Black Women’s Caucus Roundtable.

Later in the day, Andrew Yang will head to Sellers for a meet-and-greet with the mayor and the president of the local NAACP chapter. The campaign will then make its way to Columbia for a house meeting hosted by Councilwoman Tameika Isaac Devine and then a fundraiser hosted by Stephany Snowden, the City Manager of Lake City.

DONATIONS SURGE AFTER ANDREW YANG’S COMMANDING DEBATE PERFORMANCE

NEW YORK — Following Andrew Yang’s commanding debate performance last night, the campaign raised $750,000 from 20,000 donations, a third of which came from new donors. The impressive haul adds to the over 350,000 grassroots donors to the Yang campaign, the vast majority of whom are small-dollar donors.

“The most important thing we can do over the coming weeks is make sure that Iowans and New Hampshirites are hearing Andrew’s message. It’s exciting that voters are seeing much more of Andrew in-person and on TV, but there’s still more to be done — we’ve found that when voters truly listen to what Andrew has to say, they very quickly consider him as one of their top choices. His message, in conjunction with our strong ground-game, spell out tremendous upside for this campaign come February,” said Campaign Chief Nick Ryan.

Today’s fundraising feat comes on the heels of recent fundraising accomplishments, including the campaign’s single largest 24-hour fundraising haul on November 30, when it raised nearly $750,000 online from more than 18,000 contributions.

Last week, the campaign raised $2 million from 65,000 contributions over 10 days while Andrew Yang met with nearly 1,600 Iowans during his first bus tour through the state.

LOS ANGELES —Tonight, on the Democratic debate stage, Andrew Yang proved that he’s the only presidential candidate focused on rewriting the rules of the 21st century economy for all Americans—middle-class workers, communities of color, immigrants, women, and Americans with disabilities.

While other candidates were fixated on the impeachment of Donald Trump, Andrew Yang was laser-focused on the problems that got Trump elected in the first place, one being the displacement of middle class workers across the United States due to automation.

As the only person of color on the debate stage, Andrew Yang emphasized how the Freedom Dividend would bolster the power of communities of color to elect representatives, noting the wealth disparities of Black and Latino households compared to white households.

“The question is, why am I the lone candidate of color on this stage? Fewer than five percent of Americans donate to political campaigns. You know what you need to donate to political campaigns? Disposable income. The way we fix this is we take Martin Luther King’s message of a guaranteed minimum income, a Freedom Dividend of a $1,000 a month for all Americans.”

When the conversation shifted to women in politics, Andrew Yang homed in on the value of publicly funded elections and his proposal to put Democracy Dollars in the hands of every American, which would increase the number of women in elected office.

Pledging to work with Congress to implement a permanent, legislative fix for DREAMers during his first 100 days in office, Andrew Yang said, “I would make it a top priority, I’m the son of immigrants myself. The fact is almost half of Fortune 500 companies were started by an immigrant or children of immigrants. Immigrants make our economy stronger and more dynamic.”

When the debate discussion shifted to social programs for individuals with disabilities, Andrew Yang spoke from his personal perspective as the parent of a special needs child. He underscored how the Freedom Dividend will empower individuals with disabilities to better participate in our economy and noted the intrinsic value of all Americans and human beings.

Andrew Yang’s honest moments and a perspective that reflects an understanding of the problems facing most Americans led to a break-out debate performance that was the strongest of all the candidates on stage.
