SAN ANTONIO, TX (March 15, 2019) – This Monday, presidential candidate and former U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Secretary under President Obama and San Antonio Mayor, Julián Castro, will travel to New Hampshire, his second trip to the first-in-the-nation primary state since launching his candidacy for president in January.

In New Hampshire, Secretary Castro will join a roundtable hosted by the Campaign for a Family Friendly Economy on paid family and medical leave and other policies that will help working families, and he will participate in a forum on civil liberties and the presidency hosted by the ACLU in Concord.

SAN ANTONIO, TX (March 14, 2019) – On Sunday, presidential candidate and former U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Secretary under President Obama and San Antonio Mayor, Julián Castro, will travel to South Carolina, his first trip to the state since declaring his candidacy for President of the United States. Secretary Castro last traveled to South Carolina in November to campaign for various candidates running in the 2018 midterm elections.

In Charleston, Secretary Castro will speak with the congregation at a local Baptist church, tour the International African American Museum and attend a meet-and-greet with local leaders. Secretary Castro will also stop by Howard's Barber Shop in Goose Creek, SC, visit the Orangeburg Massacre site, and meet with local leaders in Columbia, SC.

Secretary Castro will outline his vision for a more inclusive and prosperous nation, one where every American can live up to their potential. He will meet with local activists, discuss South Carolina’s role in the Civil Rights movement, and underscore the work that remains to end racial disparities and build a more equitable society.

Thirty elected and appointed Democrats endorse Castro for President

SAN ANTONIO, TX (March 14, 2019) — On Thursday, the presidential campaign of former U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Secretary under President Obama and San Antonio Mayor, Julián Castro, announced a new slate of endorsements from 30 elected and appointed Democrats across Texas. The new list of endorsements from state senators, representatives, judges and local officials builds on support he has already received from Congressman Vicente González (TX-15), a two-term member from the Rio Grande Valley in South Texas, Congressman Colin Allred (TX-32), the 116th Congress Freshman Class Co-President, and Congressman Joaquin Castro (TX-20), his twin brother and Campaign Chairman.

“I’m humbled by the support of so many of my fellow Texas Democrats,” said Secretary Julián Castro. “We’ve long been working together to turn Texas blue and I am confident that if I am the Democratic nominee for President, I will carry Texas’ 38 electoral votes to a win on election day 2020.”

The 30 endorsements include 17 Texas state representatives, two state senators, a Hidalgo County district attorney, three Bexar County officials, six San Antonio City Council members, and former San Antonio Mayor and Secretary of the Department of Housing and Urban Development, Henry Cisneros.

SAN ANTONIO, TX (March 11, 2019) – On Monday, the presidential campaign of former U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Secretary under President Obama and San Antonio Mayor, Julián Castro, announced a new congressional endorsement for his candidacy for President of the United States. This endorsement builds on the congressional support he has received from Congressman Joaquin Castro (TX-20), his twin brother and Campaign Chairman, and Congressman Colin Allred (TX-32), the 116th Congress Freshman Class Co-President.

Rep. Vicente González (D-TX), a two-term Congressman representing the 15th District of Texas, announced his endorsement via the Dallas Morning News. Rep. González serves on the House Financial Services Committee, the Foreign Affairs Committee, and the Congressional Hispanic Caucus. Rep. González’s district encompasses the growing suburban counties of Brooks, Duval, Guadalupe, Jim Hogg, Karnes, and Live Oak as well as portions of Hidalgo, and Wilson counties.

SAN ANTONIO, TX (February 27, 2019) – On Thursday, presidential candidate and former Secretary of Housing and Urban Development under President Obama and San Antonio Mayor Julián Castro will travel to Las Vegas, Nevada, his first trip to the state since announcing his campaign. Prior to declaring his candidacy, Secretary Castro visited Nevada twice to campaign for various candidates in the 2018 midterm elections, and a third time in January during his exploratory phase.

In Nevada, Secretary Castro will join activists to discuss his vision for a compassionate immigration agenda that protects our borders and upholds our collective values as Americans. SAN ANTONIO, TX, (February 25, 2019) — In case you missed it, late last week and over the weekend, Secretary Julián Castro barnstormed Iowa, visiting big cities and small towns to hear from voters and caucus-goers in the Hawkeye state about the issues that are important to them. Overwhelmingly, Iowans were impressed by Julián’s eagerness to travel to communities not typically visited by Democratic presidential hopefuls, and that he didn’t focus on big rallies or isolated gatherings with party leaders.

"He came from Orange City, he's going to Buena Vista County,” Iowa State Senator Al Sturgeon told KCAU ABC 9. “He's going to some of the areas where Democrats don't do that well to say we're a party for everybody, every county, every state and I think that's the type of courage you need.”

“I just think it’s really important that Julián, as a candidate of color, is willing to come to our district — immediately,” Brigham Hoegh, chairwoman of the Democratic Party in Audubon County, told the Texas Tribune. “He could’ve written us off and said, ‘I’ll spend time in Des Moines and Iowa City’ and whatnot, but he came here, right away.”

Secretary Castro reiterated on the road that although he’s not currently a front runner, his vision for our country’s future will resonate strongly with Iowans and all Americans ahead of the Iowa caucuses. Secretary Castro made 13 stops over three days in his first trip to Iowa as a presidential candidate, prioritizing intimate gatherings with voters in rural communities over large, staged events in big cities. A number of articles underscore how impressed Iowan voters were with Secretary Castro’s message on the road this weekend.

The Denver Post noted that Secretary Castro “edged out the competition” at Saturday’s Story County Democrats Soup Supper in Ames featuring Senator Kamala Harris and Governor John Hickenlooper. “He had a lot of good things to say,” Bry Walton told the Denver Post, adding that he reminds her of former President Barack Obama. “Castro’s story of giving up his job as an attorney in order to cast a vote against a client while on the San Antonio City Council was especially powerful, Walton said.”

“He’s the only candidate here,” said J.D. Scholten, former candidate for Iowa’s 4th Congressional District to the Dallas Morning News. “We’ve seen it in the past. If you work your tail off and you know retail politics, it’s anyone’s game.”

“I’ve been following the Castro brothers for years, always interested in their political careers,” said Heather Chamberlin, an east side resident of Des Moines, following Secretary Castro’s town hall at Grandview University. “I came out here because I was thrilled to see what Julián had to offer,” Heather said, underscoring the importance she places on gun violence prevention policy. “He’s out here promising positive solutions that everyone can agree on. He’s out here to make change. He has passed my litmus test and I’m supporting him.”

Carolyn Klaus, a 69-year-old Ames resident, told the Des Moines Register that she appreciates Secretary Castro’s “focus on the people.” Judith Lemish, a 59-year-old pharmacy technician from Ames, said she was drawn to Julian’s youth and energy.

Secretary Castro’s trip comes on the heels of his campaign’s announcement that he plans to visit all 50 states during the primary and ahead of his first trip to Idaho and Utah later this week. In a video posted to the campaign's website, Julián asked voters to invite him to their hometown while the campaign maps out the Secretary’s travel in the weeks ahead.
