Julián Castro to Make First Trip to South Carolina Since Declaring Candidacy for President *Updated
Secretary Castro to make stops in Charleston, Orangeburg, Goose Creek and Columbia
SAN ANTONIO, TX (March 14, 2019) – On Sunday, presidential candidate and former U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Secretary under President Obama and San Antonio Mayor, Julián Castro, will travel to South Carolina, his first trip to the state since declaring his candidacy for President of the United States. Secretary Castro last traveled to South Carolina in November to campaign for various candidates running in the 2018 midterm elections.
In Charleston, Secretary Castro will speak with the congregation at a local Baptist church, tour the International African American Museum and attend a meet-and-greet with local leaders. Secretary Castro will also stop by Howard's Barber Shop in Goose Creek, SC, visit the Orangeburg Massacre site, and meet with local leaders in Columbia, SC.
Secretary Castro will outline his vision for a more inclusive and prosperous nation, one where every American can live up to their potential. He will meet with local activists, discuss South Carolina’s role in the Civil Rights movement, and underscore the work that remains to end racial disparities and build a more equitable society.
