Ohio Congressman Tim Ryan Endorses Joe Biden for President

Today, Ohio Congressman Tim Ryan, a former Democratic presidential candidate, released the following statement endorsing Joe Biden for President of the United States:

“Since Donald Trump took office, he has manufactured trade wars that put profit over people and hurt farmers, workers, and small businesses. America can’t afford a president who jeopardizes the success and dignity of its workers to make himself feel tough. America needs a leader who will put working communities and the middle class first. America needs Joe Biden.

“Joe is a trusted leader who has been a champion for working communities throughout his entire career in public service, which is why I am proud to endorse him for president. I know that Joe will be a voice for the many who are being left behind — workers losing their jobs to automation, unions fighting for fair wages, small business owners trying to get ahead. Joe knows that working communities built America, and I know that Joe will go to bat for them as an increasingly globalized economy threatens the very work they do.

“Joe will not only be a voice for workers and the middle class, but I know he will get things done for Ohians and the American people. From raising the minimum wage to $15 an hour to protecting and building on Obamacare to investing in infrastructure, Joe will rebuild the middle class. Ohio is key to the presidency, and Joe is the only candidate who can win over the heartland and defeat Donald Trump.”

Biden has earned the endorsements of nearly 40 current and former elected officials and community leaders from across Ohio, reflecting Biden’s strength in key battleground states. Biden’s Ohio endorsements include former longtime Congressman Edward Feighan, Columbus City Attorney Zach Klein, former Columbus City Councilmember Mary Jo Hudson, State Senator Herceal Craig, Youngstown Mayor Tito Brown, and other local leaders.

To date, Biden for President has drawn support from more than 600 national, state, and local leaders, including current and former U.S. senators and representatives, governors, state elected officials, and community leaders.

NILES - U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan, D-Niles, announced his withdrawal from the 2020 Presidential Election today after a seven-month campaign. Ryan also announced he will run for reelection as Representative for Ohio’s 13th Congressional District.

“I got into this race in April to really give voice to the forgotten people of our country: the workers who have been left behind, the businesses who have been left behind, the people who need health care or aren’t getting a quality education, or are saddled by tremendous debt," Ryan said. "I'm proud of this campaign because I believe we’ve done that. We’ve given voice to the forgotten communities and the forgotten people in the United States.

"While it didn’t work out quite the way we planned, this voice will not be stifled. I will continue to advocate and fight for the working people of this country -- white, black, brown, men, women. There’s people who get up every day, take a shower after work sometimes, that are working really hard. And we’re going to continue to fight for making sure that those workers are treated fairly, and that they have access to good health care, that they have a solid pension to retire on."

New Endorsements Come One Month After Gaining Support of Two Longtime Biden SC Advisors

Youngstown, OH— Today, presidential candidate Tim Ryan received the endorsements of three prominent South Carolina stakeholders who have switched their support from Vice President Biden to Congressman Tim Ryan. Reverend Caesar Richburg, senior pastor at Bethel AME church in Columbia, previously campaigned for Biden. In addition, George C. Bradley, Ph.D., former President of Paine College, and Dr. Tina Marshall-Bradley, Academic Coordinator in the Master of Science in Education (MSED) program in the Riley College of Education and Leadership at Walden University, are also joining Reverend Richburg in supporting Congressman Ryan over Biden.

"Tim Ryan is a man of faith and understands the challenges that African Americans face throughout the country," said Reverend Richburg. "His message of healing the country and doing something to address gun violence is the message that we preach to bring us together."

"Tim Ryan understands the needs of children. His common sense approach to address the growing concerns of mental health, social healing and fixing the broken education system is why we're so eager to support him," said Dr. George Bradley and Dr. Tina Marshall-Bradley.

The endorsements come one month after the support of Fletcher Smith and Brandon Brown, two former advisors to Vice President Joe Biden.

In October 2007, Dr. Bradley was named the 14th President of Paine College in Augusta, Georgia. Within the first two years of his presidency, Dr. Bradley has reduced the institutions financial deficit and has partnered with local, state, and federal agencies on over $8 million of capital projects that will benefit the broader Augusta community. He has laid the foundation for the growth of the institution through a twenty-five year master plan that has already had an economic impact on the Augusta community.

Reverend Caesar Richburg is the senior pastor at Bethel AME church in Columbia, South Carolina. Rev. Richburg has been an active minister in the South Carolina AME church for 25 years. He has led in the areas of civil rights, human rights and education, and led the effort to establish a paid MLK Holiday for Greenville County in South Carolina, which was the last county in America to Recognize Dr. King’s accomplishments.
