In New Ad, Texas Couple Shares Harrowing Experience Under Trump Abortion Ban For the First Time
In New, Never Before Released Photos, Ondrea And Ceasar Share For the First Time How a Trump Abortion Ban Almost Cost Ondrea Her Life and Permanently Compromised Her Fertility
The Ad, “You Will Be Protected,” Highlights Trump’s Recent Claim that He is “The Protector” of Women, Even as He Brags About His Abortion Bans That Put Women’s Lives at Risk
The Ad Comes Ahead of Vice President Harris’ Address on Reproductive Freedom in Texas — Ground Zero of Trump’s Abortion Bans
Ahead of Vice President Harris’ travel to Houston, Texas, where she will underscore the serious consequences of Trump Abortion Bans to women’s lives, the Harris campaign is uplifting a never before told story of a Texas couple through a new ad, “You Will Be Protected.” The ad takes Trump to task for his recent claim that he will be a “protector” of women through Ondrea and Ceasar’s story — who may no longer be able to have children because of the Trump Abortion Bans in their state.
In the ad, Ondrea and Ceasar share how thrilled they were when they found out they were expecting a baby girl in the fall of 2022, just months after Trump’s Supreme Court justices overturned Roe v. Wade. But at 16 weeks, Ondrea’s water broke and doctors told her that her daughter would not survive. Despite serious risk of infection, Ondrea was not offered necessary medical care — an abortion — because of a Trump Abortion Ban.
Ondrea ultimately had to undergo a six-hour emergency surgery during which doctors cut her open from her breast to her pelvis in order to save her life. For three weeks, she remained in the hospital with a surgical wound too large to be closed. In the ad, Ondrea and her husband bravely share the photos of her wound and scars to convey just how devastating Trump Abortion Bans are.
ONDREA: [Trump] did this to me. It almost cost me my life, and it will affect me for the rest of my life. Even though my wound is physically closed, there is still a part of me that still feels open.
CEASAR: Now we may never ever get to be pregnant again.
Unfortunately, Ondrea and Ceasar are just one of many couples whose lives and futures have been devastated by Donald Trump. The opening scene of “You Will Be Protected” mirrors one of the campaign’s first ads on reproductive freedom, “Willow’s Box,” which featured another Texas couple, Josh and Amanda Zurawski. In both ads, the couples share their grief over losing their deeply wanted pregnancies — a loss that was then compounded by Trump Abortion Bans that nearly cost Ondrea and Amanda their lives and forever compromised their ability to have children in the future.
“You Will Be Protected” comes as Vice President Harris will travel on Friday to Houston, Texas — ground zero of Trump’s extreme abortion bans. The nightmare playing out in Texas for women is emblematic of the harm Donald Trump’s abortion bans have already caused — and represents the consequences if Trump has the opportunity to enact his Project 2025 agenda to ban abortion nationwide.
The ad will first run on TV ahead of the Vice President’s CNN Town Hall on Wednesday. The Harris campaign will also run a shorter cut of the ad — Ceasar — on digital specifically targeted to men, as men are increasingly mobilized to vote for the Vice President by the threat that Trump Abortion Bans pose to the health and safety of their families. The campaign also released a long-form video of Ondrea and Ceasar’s story exclusively for YouTube.
WATCH
ONDREA: Her blanket.
TRUMP: First of all, I am the one that got rid of Roe v. Wade.
INTERVIEWER: Do you believe in punishment for abortion?
TRUMP: There has to be some form of punishment.
INTERVIEWER: For the woman?
TRUMP: Yeah, there has to be some form. Women will be happy, healthy, confident, and free. You will no longer be thinking about abortion. That’s all they talk about, abortion. You will no longer be abandoned, lonely, or scared. You will no longer have anxiety. You will be protected, and I will be your protector.
